HDFC Bank stock surges over 3% to record high, crossing Rs 1,800 mark for the first time ever
HDFC Bank's stock soared as much as 3.2% on Monday, reaching a record high of Rs 1,801.90 on the BSE, driven by an anticipated increase in the heavyweight lender’s MSCI index weightage, which is projected to draw $1.9 billion in inflows. With the MSCI November 2024 index review coming into effect from Monday, the banking giant was in the spotlight as it underwent a weightage adjustment. This adjustment reflects the final tranche of a phased increase announced earlier this year, solidifying HDFC Bank's role as a key driver in the MSCI index realignment.

India will always have some premium; in October, when FIIs sold $11 bn, HDFC AMC saw record SIP flows: Navneet Munot
Navneet Munot, MD & CEO, HDFC AMC, says in the journey of Sensex from 1,000 to 75,000, we have seen many corrections and a bit of volatility is healthy for the market. Foreigners have lightened their positions and maybe as the results season kick in, maybe after a quarter or so, and people get more faith on the earnings for, let us say, FY26, FY27, FY28, coming back on track. Munot is pretty sure that investors would come back and India will always have some premium. One cannot compare other countries with a lower capital efficiency. India’s capital efficiency has been better, growth prospects have been better and the governance standards are better, and one has to pay some premium for that. What is the total AMC size right now, the AUM? Navneet Munot: It is over Rs 7.5 lakh crore. We have come a long way…

Europe is already facing its next energy crisis
energy crisis for Europe, which is still reeling from extreme shocks two years ago. Escalating tensions in Ukraine have contributed to about a 45% surge gas prices this year. While levels are still far below 2022 records, they are high enough to risk deepening a cost-of-living crisis for households and intensifying competitive pressure on strapped manufacturers. Gas storage is a lifeline during the coldest periods but inventories this year are rapidly declining after frosty temperatures increased demand for heating and a wind drought required more usage for power generation.

Plea filed in Supreme Court to take US bribery charges against Gautam Adani on record
Gautam Adani paid and offered bribes to Indian government officials for securing solar power projects has now reached the Supreme Court. A fresh plea was filed late Saturday night informing the apex court to take on record the allegations of bribery and corruption raised by US prosecutors and the US SEC against the Adani group. The application has been filed in a batch of pending petitions in the Adani-Hindenburg row over allegations of stock price manipulation by the Indian corporate giant. Lawyer Vishal Tiwari, who was also one of the petitioners in the Adani-Hindenburg case, in his fresh application said the indictment order was relevant to the pending case and these documents «unveil serious malpractices carried out by the conglomerate» and these should be thoroughly investigated by the Indian authorities in the «interest of the nation.»

Maharashtra assembly elections, winning 132 out of 149 seats it had contested and garnering 17,293,650 votes, as per ECI data. The BJP's stellar performance at Maharashtra hustings, results of which were declared on Saturday, saw the party reaping a rich harvest of 132 seats in the 288-member House. Its Mahayuti partners Shiv Sena and NCP led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar won 57 and 41 seats, respectively. The Congress, which won only 16 out of 101 seats it had contested, came a distant second with a 12.42 per cent vote share. The Grand Old Party polled 8,020,921 votes.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's impressive electoral debut boosts UDF’s prospect as it looks to unseat LDF
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has not only deepened the Congress, and by extension, UDF’s footprint in the Lok Sabha constituency spread across three districts, but has, in the process, cut into INDI ally LDF’s votes. The sharp differences between the CPI(M) and CPI local leaders and cadre and a lightning campaign by the 52-year-old MP-elect has helped the UDF widen its gap with its closest rival. Throughout her less than three-week campaign, Vadra consciously projected herself as the UDF nominee and less as a Congress leader. UDF’s constituent, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), has a huge clout across the seven assembly segments in Wayanad LS seat. This combined with Vadra’s appeal helped the Congress turn in its best performance with a 65% vote share, higher than Rahul Gandhi’s 2019 record.
