Backlog of POCSO cases in Maharashtra surges to nearly 42,000 amidst lack of dedicated special courts
This troubling development comes despite legislative mandates designed to expedite trials, primarily due to the absence of sufficient dedicated courts to handle such cases. The alarming statistics were revealed in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by city-based activist Vihar Durve on February 6, 2025, requesting details on the pendency of POCSO-related cases in the state. A reply provided by the Bombay High Court’s Public Information Officer on March 4 disclosed that the number of pending cases rose from 32,988 at the beginning of 2023 to 41,977 by January 31, 2025. This increase occurred even as laws stipulate the fast-tracking of cases involving child victims. The backlog has been growing significantly each year. In 2024 alone, 12,838 new cases were registered, while only 7,942 were resolved, contributing nearly 5,000 additional cases to the pile. The pendency rate has risen by 11.2% in 2023 and 13.3% in 2024, with 405 new cases added to the backlog in the first month of 2025 alone.

'Scum,' 'crooked' elections and 'corrupt' media. What Trump said inside the Justice Department
Donald Trump delivered what sounded like one of his typical meandering, grievance-laden campaign speeches on Friday, but it was where he did it — inside the U.S. Department of Justice — that mattered. The appearance marked Trump's clearest exertion yet of personal control over the country's federal law enforcement apparatus, which is normally run by appointees who keep at least an arm's length from the president to avoid the appearance that politics are governing prosecutorial decisions. Trump, instead, embraced the notion of the agency as his own personal tool of vengeance. «As the chief law enforcement officer in our country, I will insist upon and demand full and complete accountability for the wrongs and abuses that have occurred,» Trump told the audience, with Attorney General Pam Bondi (who is technically the country's chief law enforcement officer) and FBI Director Kash Patel in the audience. One of Trump's favorite campaign songs, «YMCA,» played after he wrapped up his nearly hourlong address inside the department's ceremonial Great Hall. Here's a look at what Trump said, what the reality is and the significance of his words.

This month, many investors feel dazed and confused. No wonder: as the U.S. government flirts with another shutdown and U.S. President Donald Trump intensifies his trade war, indices of economic uncertainty have skyrocketed above even the 2020 pandemic or the global financial crisis of 2008.

Jupiter shuts down Mark Heslop and Philip Macartney's Pan European Smaller Companies fund
According to a letter sent to clients, Jupiter has elected to close the Luxembourg domiciled fund, launched in February 2020, after its assets under management had fallen to around €16m. As a result, the company concluded that it did not expect the mandate to «attract significant future inflows in the short to medium term» and liquidating the fund was therefore «in the best interest of shareholders». Jupiter outflows surge to £10.3bn amid value desk redemptions This closure follows the pattern and rationale of Jupiter's recent fund axings, as it continues to move through its long t...

Diego Maradona's medical team on trial for homicide, faces 25 years in jail
The trial for homicide will be conducted at a three-judge court in San Isidro, near the Argentine capital Buenos Aires from March 11, 2025, and is likely to continue for several months. Even though Maradona had been suffering from a host of health related issues for many years, the prosecution team has alleged that his death was the result of medical negligence on the part of the team of doctors and nurses treating him. An iconic player who mesmerised the football world with his exceptional talent, Maradona died aged 60 on November 25, 2020, following a cardiac arrest linked to acute pulmonary edema while undergoing treatment in a private residence in Tigre, Buenos Aires. Just a few days ago Maradona had undergone an operation for the removal of a blood clot in his brain.

Elon Musk doing a great job! Donald Trump plans to buy a Tesla to save Musk's 'baby' as cos shares plummet
Donald Trump has declared his support for Tesla CEO Elon Musk by announcing his intention to buy a “brand new” Tesla. The move comes as Musk faces mounting political criticism and financial setbacks. In a late-night post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American. Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN???” Musk, who has financially backed Trump’s political ambitions and now plays a senior role in the administration, responded with a brief but telling, “Thank you, President.”

Canada to send invitations to apply for Parents and Grandparents PR pathway in 2025
IRCC) had announced that they would be sending no new invitations under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) this year, and would instead only be processing applications submitted in the 2024 intake. This year Canada intends to accept up to 10,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the PGP Program. «Given there remains a number of interest to sponsor forms in the pool from 2020, IRCC plans to send invitations to apply to randomly selected potential sponsors from that pool instead of accepting new forms. This is the same approach taken for the intakes conducted from 2020 to 2024,» said IRCC in a statement. ALSO READ: Canada pauses permanent residency sponsorship applications for parents, grandparents

Court dismisses Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra's plea against summoning order in MCC violation case
Rouse Avenue Court on Friday dismissed Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra's revision plea, in which he had challenged the trial court's cognizance and summoning order in a case related to an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The trial court had taken cognizance of the charge sheet in 2020, which pertained to a statement allegedly made by Kapil Mishra in January 2020, when the MCC was in force during the Delhi Assembly elections. «The word 'Pakistan' is very skillfully weaved by the revisionist in his alleged statements to spew hatred, careless to communal polarisation that may ensue in the election campaign, only to garner votes,» the court said while dismissing the plea.
