Pre-market action: Here's the trade setup for today's session
Equity markets clocked gains for the third consecutive week, continuing their upward trajectory as Nifty made new highs. The index, however, came under pressure at higher levels due to some profit booking. «We expect this positive momentum to continue at a steady pace with stock-specific action. However, the release of economic data points next week would keep a little volatility in the market. Sector like Auto is expected to be in the limelight as OEMs would release their monthly auto Sales number,» said Siddhartha Khemka, Head — Retail Research, Motilal Oswal.

Must accelerate action for sustainable development goals: UN Secy General
progress on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 remains uneven, slow and mostly elusive. The United Nation's annual report card, Sustainable Development Goals Report 2024, launched in New York on Friday, finds only 17 % of the SDG targets are currently on track, with nearly half showing minimal or moderate progress, and over one-third stalled or regressing. «The world is getting a failing grade,» said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. «The takeaway is simple: Our failure to secure peace, to confront climate change and to boost international finance is undermining development. We must accelerate action for the Sustainable Development Goals — and we don't have a moment to lose.» Between 2015, when countries adopted the SDGs to 2019, there were marked gains and improvements though these too were insufficient to achieve the goals by 2030. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and its lingering impacts, the energy, food and economic crisis resulting from the wars and escalating conflicts, geopolitical tensions and growing climate chaos have severely hindered progress.

WestJet cancels flights as surprise strike begins on long weekend
WestJet says it’s cancelled at least 150 flights beginning Saturday after the union maintaining the airline’s planes announced it went on strike hours earlier. The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) announced its members started to strike around 5:30 p.m. MDT Friday because the airline’s “unwillingness to negotiate with the union made the strike inevitable.”The move came after the federal government issued a ministerial order for binding arbitration on Thursday. The order also followed two weeks of turbulent discussions with the union on a new deal.Calgary-based WestJet has lambasted the move by the mechanics union, saying it’s “extremely outraged at these actions and will hold AMFA 100 per cent accountable for the unnecessary stress and costs incurred as a result.”On Thursday, WestJet said that AMFA “confirmed they will abide by the direction.
