Svadhyaya becomes increasingly pertinent in a world that constantly seeks external gratification and validation. Derived from Sanskrit words, 'sva' means self and 'adhyaya' means study, education. Svadhyaya encapsulates the practice of self-study, introspection and the exploration of one's inner being. It is a transformative process of personal exploration. Maharishi Patanjali, in his Yog Sutras, presents Svadhyaya as one of the Niyamas, ethical observances, in his Ashtanga Yog path. Svadhyaya encompasses various dimensions of self-exploration and learning. It involves studying texts and philosophical treatises, but more important is its focus on knowing our own thoughts and emotions; cultivating an awareness of the Self. According to Svadhyaya, this is the more potent means to self-realisation. The idea: all knowledge is futile till there is a thorough knowledge of the Self. Svadhyaya is not dissimilar to the philosophical maxim espoused by ancient Greek theologians or Immanuel Kant during the Age of Enlightenment.

Pegatron is in advanced talks to sell a majority stake in its iPhone manufacturing unit near Chennai to Tata group, people aware of the matter told ET. «The deal is expected to be completed in the coming two to three months, or, (at the) latest, by the second quarter of the fiscal year,» said one of the persons. «However, as of now, it's unclear if this will be a Wistron-type buyout or a joint venture.» Both options are said to be on the table. Wistron, like Pegatron and Foxconn, is a Taiwan-based contract manufacturer for Apple. Tata group acquired its local operations for $125 million (₹1,000 crore) in November last year, becoming the first Indian company to manufacture iPhones.

Ola and Uber have taken the route first deployed by rivals Namma Yatri and Swiggy-backed Rapido by offering subscription-based plans for auto-rickshaw drivers on their platforms instead of charging a booking fee or commission on every transaction. Over the last few weeks, Ola has rolled out the subscription model for its auto-rickshaw drivers in some top markets including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, while Uber has launched the same in six cities starting with Chennai, Kochi and Visakhapatnam, a person aware of the matter said.

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City may soon enjoy a five-day work week, months after the government eased alcohol consumption rules in GIFT City to make it more attractive to global financial institutions. A working group set up by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) on uniform working hours and a holiday list for IBUs has recommended a five-day work week and a decision in this regard may be announced soon, according to two officials aware of the matter. «The recommendations are being examined, and we expect a nod for a five-day work week within the first quarter of 2024-25,» said one of the officials, who did not wish to be identified, adding that IBUs will also adopt the Mumbai holiday calendar. «This is required because most of the IBUs are involved in treasury operations, which, for Indian lenders, are mostly done through Mumbai, and also because overseas units of Indian banks follow the Mumbai holiday calendar.» The working group said in its recommendations that a five-day work week will align with practices adopted in international financial centres and offshore units of Indian banks. «The government wants to position GIFT City as a major financial hub. All these steps are very important benchmarks for an aspiring international financial centre like GIFT IFSC,» said another official.

NEW DELHI : The long-delayed privatization of IDBI Bank may be about to speed up, with the central bank examining the suitability of potential bidders. Prem Watsa-backed CSB Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Emirates NBD are among those who have submitted initial bids for the government's majority stake in IDBI Bank, media reports have said. According to two people aware of the matter, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is currently studying whether the potential bidders adhere to its 'fit and proper criteria' for running a financial services entity.

New Delhi, The number of drunken driving challans issued in the first three months of 2024 saw a staggering rise of 1,550 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, according to Delhi Traffic Police. During the year 2024, from January 1 to March 31, the Delhi Traffic Police initiated special drives against drunken driving and booked 6,591 violators compared to 399 in 2022 in the same period, the traffic police said in a statement on Sunday. Compared to the corresponding period last year, a rise of 22 per cent was witnessed with 5,384 challans issued for this offence in 2023, they said. This concerning trend underscores the urgent need for increased awareness and stringent enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure public safety on Delhi's roads, the police said.

Vistara chief Vinod Kannan said the airline will look to review the current rostering system after discussions with pilots and emphasised that there has been no unusual spike in attrition. The Tata Group airline, which is in the process of getting merged with Air India, has temporarily reduced flight operations to ensure the availability of adequate pilot buffer and expects the situation to normalise by May. A stretched roster on account of the high utilisation of pilots is the key reason for the recent disruptions, according to the airline while there are also concerns among a section of pilots about the new contract that will also result in pay revision. In an interview with PTI on Friday, Kannan said that during a town hall with pilots, some concerns were raised around rostering, and pilots were told that the airline would look at how the rostering process can be reviewed.
