Bruce Springsteen in London: BST Hyde Park July 8 performance details and highlights of July 6
Bruce Springsteen is back in London this weekend to play at the BST Hyde Park Festival 2023. He already performed his first act on July 6, 2023, and even made a joking reference to his past at Hyde Park. When Springsteen performed at Hyde Park earlier, he had missed the curfew on stage and had the power cut as a result. His act with The Beatles’ legend Paul McCartney interrupted. At the time, Springsteen's guitarist Steve Van Zandt had tweeted that the singer was angry, and asked «when did England become a police state?». Boris Johnson, then Mayor of London, even criticized the authorities behavior as «an excessively efficacious decision». On Thursday, July 6, as Springsteen returned to play at Hyde Park at the BST Festival, he forgave London. The singer got onto stage just after 7 pm BST, and went on to play for three hours! As a reference to what happened in the past, 15 minutes before the show ended, he tapped his watch and said to his guitarist, «I think it's time to go home. I'm telling you, if we don't go, they're going to pull the plug on us again.» Then he changed his mind, just shrugged and screamed some expletives, and sang Glory Days. A crowd of 65,000 fans cheered Springsteen, including celebrities like tennis star Roger Federer, and singers Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, and Peter Gabriel. Bruce Springsteen performs for a second night at the BST Hyde Park Festival in London on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

Jonny Bairstow stumping makes Ashes 2023 a Rishi Sunak Vs Anthony Albanese match
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Tuesday defended his country's Ashes cricket team, after Rishi Sunak—his UK counterpart—said a dismissal during the second test was against the spirit of the game. With England on 193-5 and chasing a mammoth target of 371, Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey underarmed the ball at the stumps after batsman Jonny Bairstow left his crease at the end of an over during the fifth day of the match. The dismissal triggered long and loud booing from the crowd at Lord's and saw premiers of both the countries weighing in behind their skippers.

‘That’s not me!’ Ben Stokes silences critics with fitting comeback to Australian newspaper's taunting 'Crybaby' headline
cricket captain, Ben Stokes, has responded to an Australian newspaper's attempt to label him and his team as 'crybabies'. The response came as the fierce battle between England and Australia in the ongoing Ashes series extended beyond the cricket pitch, with media outlets from both countries engaging in a war of words. The Australian media fired shots at England's team, labelling them as 'crybabies' after Stokes expressed his displeasure on the controversial dismissal of England wicketkeeper batter, Jonny Bairstow, during the recent Lord's Test. Bairstow had walked out of the crease after ducking a short ball from Cameron Green, but with the ball still in play, Carey threw it at the stumps and dislodged the bails. Bairstow was left stunned, as the English fans booed loudly. Australia won the match by 43 runs despite Stokes’s heroic 155 in the fourth innings. After Monday's papers in the United Kingdom took a dig at the Australian team over the controversial dismissal, one newspaper, The West Australian, published a front-page image of Stokes in nappies, with a pacifier and the headline 'Crybabies'. «Poms take whingeing to a new level with 'cheating' drivel» read another line from the paper.

At Wimbledon, the Grass Isn’t Quite the Grass Anymore
Novak Djokovic had just won the French Open when the questions began about his preparations to claim a 24th major title at Wimbledon. With three weeks between the two tournaments, how would he manage the transition from clay courts to grass this season? And which grass-court tuneup events would he play to rediscover a feel for the surface? Djokovic’s answer: none of them. His next competitive match would be the first round at the All England Club, this week—and it would feel just fine.

Boredom: A valuable learning opportunity for kids
While I had a relatively regimented schedule and spent long stretches of every summer at camp, there were weeks when my parents, who both worked, hadn't filled my schedule with much of anything, and they didn't give a hoot about whether I felt sufficiently engaged or amused. That has been on my mind as my own sons make their way through the summer with a hodgepodge of camps, babysitters and grandparent time that is breathtakingly expensive and yet feels insufficient in terms of actual child care or stimulation. I am hardly alone in feeling like it is my parental duty to stuff their days full of activities and learning opportunities. A study cited in a 2018 New York Times article that lamented the relentlessness of modern parenting found that regardless of education, income or race, parents believed children who are bored should be enrolled in extracurricular activities. As Erin Westgate, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Florida, explained it to me, there is a kind of cultural stigma attached to boredom, particularly in the United States. Only boring people get bored, the saying goes.
