The silent killer: Work stress continues to claim lives of employees; what can be done?
Pune losing her life to work stress and burnout has once again raised concerns about India’s workplace culture. In the current employment landscape, where the hustle culture or “always available” attitude is promoted, employees are receiving the impression that the only way to succeed is to sacrifice their personal lives and disrupt their work-life balance. However, engaging in such a practice for a long period can lead to devastating consequences. While many organisations continue to claim that they have supportive policies for employees in place, it’s important to know what is the ground reality and what can be done to completely eliminate the possibility of such episodes.

Dr Lal PathLabs sets sights on big buys to expand in south
Dr Lal PathLabs, India's largest diagnostic chain, is looking at a potentially large acquisition to increase its foothold in south India. If the asset is of a strategic fit, it could look at a deal size of Rs 3,000 crore-Rs 4,000 crore, said a senior company official. «We have around Rs 1,000 crore (net) cash, we can leverage our balance sheet, we can use our equity, size will not hold us,» said Ved Prakash Goel, group CFO, in an interview to ET. «There are people who are there in the market, the (valuation) expectation is high,» Goel said. Dr Lal is typically looking at assets with Rs 300-400 crore revenue, with the right revenue mix, good quality and governance practices. It has formed an M&A team to evaluate potential acquisition opportunities in the market.

Tata Steel ends 'legacy steelmaking' at Britain's largest steelworks
Port Talbot plant in South Wales hit a significant milestone on Monday when its Blast Furnace 4 ceased operations after over 100 years, marking an end of «legacy» steelmaking as the UK's largest steelworks transitions towards greener steelmaking. Steelmaking at the site is now set to resume in 2027-2028 as part of a British government-backed investment programme of around GBP 1.25 billion in Electric Arc Furnace-based steelmaking, using UK-sourced scrap steel. The Mumbai-headquartered steel giant said it is looking ahead to a «brighter, greener future» for the historic site and sustaining more than 5,000 jobs. «I am deeply conscious how difficult today is for everyone associated with our business. Throughout this transition, we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact on all those who are affected by the changes we are making,» Rajesh Nair, CEO of Tata Steel UK, said in a statement.
