India, the minister said, can be a leader in Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is guided by artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and Big Data & Analytics, thanks to its large young population. Tamil Nadu Rains: CM declares holiday for schools, colleges on Oct 15; IT staff asked to work from home
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday took stock of the situation arising due to the heavy rain predicted by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, in the next four days. He has directed the authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts on October 15, and also asked them to issue advisory to IT firms to allow their employees to work from home from October 15 to 18. The RMC said Tamil Nadu would receive heavy rain due to a low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am today. «It is likely to become a well marked low pressure area and move west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next two days,» it said. There would be enhanced rainfall activity associated with the movement of this system, the IMD said.

Junior docs call off 'total cease work'; threaten hunger strike if demands not met within 24 hrs
junior doctors demanding justice for the RG Kar medic on Friday evening called off their 'total cease work' at state-run medical colleges and hospitals but threatened to launch a hunger strike till death if their demands were not met by the West Bengal government within 24 hours. «We are calling off our 'total cease work' and returning to duties. But we will continue our sit-in protest. We will give the state administration 24 hours to fulfill our demands or else we will start a hunger strike till death,» an agitating doctor, Debasish Halder of Kolkata Medical College and Hospital, said. Braving the incessant drizzle, junior doctors holding one big clock in their hands reiterated their demands including the directive to form a central inquiry committee for disciplinary proceedings against alleged perpetrators involved in «threat culture» in all medical colleges of West Bengal, among others. «But the state government must not think that we are calling off our agitation as we are scared. If they think there is nobody with us, they are wrong. We have full support of the common people,» he said.

CBI arrests RG Kar house staff doctor, taking total to 5
RG Kar Medical College in connection with the financial irregularities at the hospital. The aide, Asish Pandey, was a house staff doctor at RG Kar Hospital and was associated with the Trinamool students' wing. This takes the total number of arrests made so far to five. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front (WBJDF) held a general body meeting after holding discussions with senior doctors of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, to take a final call on their «cease work» agitation, which they resumed recently. The senior doctors advised their junior colleagues to consider partial withdrawal of their cease work protest. Senior doctors, professors and faculty members were of the opinion that «since it is a common people's movement, junior doctors should continue their protests and movement simultaneously, but at the same time partially resume work to serve the poor, who largely depend on state government-run hospitals».

October boost for Donald Trump: Flurry of polls give the ex-President edge in U.S elections
Donald Trump as a wave of polls gives him the advantage. A set of surveys released on Tuesday indicate that, in the lead-up to November's election, Donald Trump has gained a modest advantage in many important battleground states. Donald Trump leads Kamala Harris in a number of polls in the key swing states of Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Georgia. Based on polling data, it appears like Harris and Trump are virtually tied as the last month of campaigning before Election Day approaches. According to a Tuesday analysis of recent polling by seasoned analyst Nate Silver, Harris led by 3.4 points, but the Electoral College system would only give her a 55% chance of winning in the end.

Most students, corporates prefer 4-6 month internships: Report
Internships have increasingly become a preferred mode of candidate selection for many corporations and most students and corporates prefer 4 to 6 months (one semester) of internships as an appropriate time for learning, says a report. According to a report by AI-powered recruitment automation firm HirePro students (53 per cent), colleges (40 per cent) and corporates (57 per cent) prefer internships that last for 4-6 months (one semester) as it is neither too long nor too short. Students see internships as an opportunity to learn the real-world nuances of what they study in classrooms, while being mentored by a knowledgeable expert, said the report. For corporations, it found that it is a great way to closely observe a candidate and see how quickly they can learn and start delivering on tasks. However, colleges endorse 10-12 months long internships for students to be industry-ready, it added.

Harris or Trump — Who is favouring skills over college degrees for federal jobs?
Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump may disagree on numerous issues, but they’ve both recognized the value of apprenticeships and trade schools as viable alternatives to traditional four-year college degrees. Both political figures are advocating for policies that encourage young Americans to pursue these routes to well-paying jobs, as mentioned in a report by USA Today. Recently, Kamala Harris announced her intent to reduce college degree requirements for federal jobs and urged private-sector employers to do the same if elected. Speaking in the working-class town of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Harris emphasized the need to recognize the value of different career pathways beyond the conventional college route.
