Target FIVE Action community DAL Nagpur Violence: Nearly 45 people arrested; VHP demands strictest action against perpetrators
VHP on Tuesday condemned the violence in Maharashtra's Nagpur over a demand to remove Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and sought «strictest action» against those involved. At least 45 people have been arrested in connection with the violence that erupted on Monday, Nagpur district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Tuesday. As many as 34 police personnel and five other persons suffered injuries in the incident, he added. Condemning the incident, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary (organisation) Milind Parande alleged that «a section» of a particular community carried out attacks and arson. «Houses of our youth wing Bajrang Dal workers were attacked, they targeted many houses… The Vishva Hindu Parishad condemns all this in the strongest terms,» he said in a statement. «It is extremely shameful that, on one hand, a lie was spread that the Hindu community had burnt the verses… on the other hand, a despicable attempt was made to incite violence. Strictest action should be taken against all such anti-social elements,» he added. The senior VHP functionary said glorification of Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar should be stopped and no thought given to improve it.

According to the additional district magistrate, the prohibitory orders have been imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS 2023. «Whereas reports have been received from the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur, indicating a serious apprehension of a breach of law and order in the district, which is likely to disturb peace and tranquillity among different communities and may lead to damage to life and public property,» the order stated. To prevent further escalation, unauthorised processions or unlawful assemblies of five or more people have been banned, along with the carrying of weapons, including sticks, rods and stones, it added. Throughout the day, protesters attempted to enforce a shutdown, urging shops to close immediately.

cabinet sub-committee, which was formed last year to look into grievances against the present reservation policy in the Union Territory. The information was given by Sakeena Itoo, the minister in-charge social welfare, in a written reply to a starred question by Peoples Conference legislator Sajad Gani Lone in the House. The cabinet sub-committee headed by Itoo with ministers Satish Sharma and Javed Rana as its members was constituted in December last year and is going to submit its report to the council of ministers headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Reservation has become a major issue in Jammu and Kashmir following the Central government's decision to add more communities to the reserved category and expand quotas in the UT over the past five years. There are increasing objections to the Centre's move to push the reservation quota to 70 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir. «The Cabinet Sub Committee stands constituted vide Government order No. 2061- JKGAD of 2024, dated 10.12. 2024 to examine the grievances projected by a section of aspirants for various posts regarding reservation rules. However, no specific timeline has been fixed for submitting the report,» the minister said in response to Lone, who had asked whether a six months time period had been granted to the panel to review the existing reservation policy. Itoo said that a total of 5,39,306 Scheduled Tribe population — 4,59,493 in Jammu division and 79,813 in Kashmir division — have obtained ST certificates in the last two years effective from April 2023, while 67,112 certificates have been issued to scheduled caste population of Jammu region during the same period.
