JDU MP Devesh Chandra Thakur draws flak from his own party & ally BJP for his anti Muslims & Yadavs remark
JDU's Sitamarhi MP Devesh Chandra Thakur's remark that he won't do any work for Muslims and Yadavs as they did not vote for him in the Lok Sabha polls have raised Bihar's political temperature. He made the comment in his constituency which he won by defeating RJD candidate Arjun Ray by 51,356 votes. Thakur's statement has drawn flak from his own party, with senior JDU leader and state minister Vijay Choudhary stating that the government led by Nitish Kumar and JDU believe in taking people of all communities together. «We have a proven track record of working for all communities and that has resulted in us getting support from everyone,» he told ET. "...It is shameful to make such a statement. I appeal to Thakurji to take back this controversial statement," JDU MP from Banka, Giridhari Yadav, posted on X.

Amid rising terror attacks in J&K, government increases armed forces, but will it be enough?
Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch, where even the bustling marketplace is not immune to the specter of terrorism. Hidden within the green forest cover of the Pir Panjal region are highly trained Pakistani terrorists, presenting a significant challenge to security forces. Despite intensified patrolling following a recent surge in terrorist attacks, searching these dense forests remains a daunting task. Resurgence of Terrorism After an 18-year hiatus, terrorism has resurfaced in Poonch and Rajouri, with the first major attack on the army occurring in the forests of Surankote in October 2021. This resurgence has disrupted security calculations for Jammu and Kashmir, exacerbated by the abrogation of Article 370, which granted the region special status under the Constitution.

Congress in Kerala apologises to Christians over controversial social media post
Congress in Kerala on Monday tendered an apology to the Christian community a day after one of its social media posts taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent meeting with Pope Francis triggered a political row in the state. The party also withdrew the post from its official X handle. In a fresh post on its X handle, the state unit of the grand old party said it tendered an unconditional apology to the Christian faithful if its earlier post had caused any «emotional or psychological distress» to them. In the explanatory post, the party further said the people in the state clearly know that it is not the tradition of the Indian National Congress to insult and disparage any religion, religious priests or idols.

Does the future of South Asian cuisine lie in the Middle East
Sri Lankan community in New York City probably gravitated to Staten Island, just below Manhattan because of cheaper rents, but there might be other reasons why the place feels familiar. One of the best ways to get a good meal in New York is to board the Staten Island ferry. It’s free, you pass the Statue of Liberty and at the other end are a bunch of great Sri Lankan restaurants. You can savour their curries with their distinctive deeply roasted spices and the underlying umami note from the grated dried tuna called Maldi fish, enjoy the hoppers (appams) and rich coconut rice and finish with one of the best desserts ever, thick yoghurt with kithul (fishtail palm syrup). And you can wonder why Staten Island has more Sri Lankan restaurants than all of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third swearing-in saw heads of neighbouring South Asian countries appear as guests. It might have been more meaningful without the one obvious omission, but it still seemed a gesture towards something that has almost vanished — the idea of South Asia beyond just how the countries affect each other on a political level. There are links of history, geography, cultural exchange, personal histories, environmental connections and, yes, food that also count in the South Asian space.
