Jio AirFiber: Reliance Jio launches fixed wireless service in 8 cities
Reliance Jio on Tuesday launched its fixed wireless access (FWA) device — Jio AirFiber — in eight cities — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, just over a month after rival Bharti Airtel introduced its own device in two cities, as both telcos make initial attempts at monetising their 5G services. «Our extensive fiber-to-the-home service JioFiber, already serves over 10 million customers...With JioAirFiber, we are expanding our addressable market to rapidly cover every home in our country with similar quality of service,» Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio, said in a statement. A fixed wireless device uses radio frequencies instead of cables/fibres to provide fixed broadband access, using technologies like 5G. Simply put, these are portable broadband devices, much like dongles but with better coverage and speeds. The Jio AirFiber service has been launched with multiple plans ranging from 30 Mbps speeds to 1000 Mbps speeds, all available in blocks of six months and 12 months, the telco said in the statement. The plans are available in two buckets — Jio AirFiber and Jio AirFiber Max.

China tells foreign consulates in Hong Kong to submit personal data of local staff
China's Foreign Ministry has asked all foreign consulates in Hong Kong to provide the personal details of their locally employed staff, as Beijing tightens its control over the semi-autonomous city. The Commissioner's Office of the Foreign Ministry, in a letter seen by The Associated Press, asked the consulates to provide staffers' names, job titles, residential addresses, identity card numbers and travel document numbers «in line with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and general international practice.» The letter, dated Monday and addressed to all consulate posts and the Office of the European Union, stated that they should comply with the request by Oct. 18, and that the details of staffers who are employed in the future should be furnished within 15 days. It wasn't clear whether China furnishes details of its staff in foreign missions to other countries. The request comes as Beijing has tightened control over Hong Kong in recent years following its imposition of a sweeping national security law aimed at stamping out dissent. Governments in the West have criticized the law as a dismantling of Hong Kong's political freedoms and civil society.

View: Businesses need to prioritise customer care for a better tomorrow
'Just like we've shifted from carbon credit to green credit, can we also change this pattern… instead of celebrating the consumer rights day worldwide out of compulsion, can we take the leadership in talking about consumer care day,' he said. 'Once we start celebrating consumer care day, you will see the change in the environment with big positive signals.' Modi's speech is timely, given the growing concerns about the impact of businesses on consumers and the environment.
