cyber security threats and zero day attacks as leading western countries due to its geopolitical importance, said cybersecurity executives.
Speaking to ET, on the sidelines of the m-WISE Mandiant Security conference, cybersecurity experts said that in general, the threats across the Japan and APAC region have been on the rise.
John Hultquist, Mandiant intelligence chief analyst at Google Cloud said that the threat of malware attacks on critical infrastructure have been on the rise in places like the US and India. “It is important to know that these threat actors are increasingly attacking critical infrastructure. In Asia, they have been found in India,” said Hultquist.
He added that these threat actors are groups of hackers who could be both financially motivated as well as motivated by nation states. “India has been an extraordinary example of Chinese targeting of critical infrastructure. Symantec just said, that group is still out there targeting Indian infrastructure, they're still active,” he added.
He added that apart from the power infrastructure, threat actors are focused on transportation and logistics services like railway infrastructure. They could use malware or bugs to create mismanagement beyond just failure of specific systems.
