In the article, they attacked the BJP-led central government and said that although 1975 is a stain on the country's democracy, let's not forget who doesn't respect the Opposition in 2024. «I was the convener of the steering committee that Jayaprakash Narayan--had constituted to carry forward the movement against the excesses of Emergency imposed by the then PM Indira Gandhi. I was in jail under the Maintenance of Security Act (MISA) for over 15 months. My colleagues and I did not know many of the BJP ministers speaking about the Emergency today. We hadn't heard of Modi, J P Nadda, and some of the PM's other ministerial colleagues who today lecture us on the value of freedom,» he posted on X.

India's healthcare in critical condition: 4 out of 5 public health centers below par, reveals new Govt report
self-assessment conducted by the Indian government, it has come to light that a vast majority of the country's public health facilities are falling short of essential standards mandated by the government. Detailed Assessment of Public Health Facilities According to data published on the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) dashboard, only approximately 20% of the assessed facilities achieved a score of 80% or higher, meeting the required benchmarks for infrastructure, human resources, drugs, diagnostics, and equipment. IS killed more than 4,000 since Syria territorial defeat: monitor
Islamic State fighters have killed nearly 4,100 people in Syria since 2019 when the jihadists lost their last stronghold in the country, a war monitor said Saturday. IS overran large swathes of Syria and Iraq in 2014, proclaiming a so-called caliphate and launching a reign of terror in June of that year. In March 2019, the jihadist group lost its last scraps of Syrian territory in a Kurdish-led military campaign backed by a US-led coalition, but remnants continue to launch deadly attacks from desert hideouts.

Brexit backlash: Brits now regret their populist revolt
In 2019, Boris Johnson rode to a big election win on a promise to “Get Brexit Done" and finally strike a deal with the European Union for Britain’s departure. Next week, the Conservative Party that delivered Brexit goes to the polls again, this time facing a deficit of more than 20 percentage points and almost certain defeat by the opposition Labour Party. The only question, it seems, is the scale of the wipeout for the hapless Rishi Sunak and his Tories.

Top fertiliser maker says ‘Black Swan’ jolts are finally easing
fertiliser demand is just now starting to stabilise from seismic shocks of the past few years that left the company with wild profit swings. “We’re getting back at least to a market that we would call stable,” Nutrien Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Ken Seitz said Wednesday in an interview at Bloomberg’s headquarters in New York. Black Swan-like events — unanticipated calamities that pull markets into a tailspin — upended the typical cycles of the market, the CEO said. Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine disrupted global fertiliser shipments and pushed prices — and Nutrien earnings — to record heights. But as farmers and retailers balked at the sticker shock, demand tumbled.

Why it feels like everyone in the world is heading to Japan right now
Japan has never seen so many tourists flood into the country so quickly. The yen’s historic collapse, meaning a cheaper traveling experience for those with tourist dollars to spend, coupled with the post-pandemic surge in global tourism, has sparked interest in the nation like never before. More than 14.5 million people arrived in the country in the first five months of this year, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization’s latest figures. That’s 70% up on the same period last year, and on track to beat 2019’s record 31 million visitors.
