Trademark infringement: Patanjali asked to deposit Rs 50 lakh for breach of HC order
Bombay High Court has directed Patanjali Ayurved to deposit Rs 50 lakh for alleged breach of the HC's interim order restraining it from selling its camphor products, in relation to a trademark infringement case filed by another company. Following trademark infringement allegations by Mangalam Organics Ltd, the HC in an interim order in August 2023 restrained Patanjali Ayurved Ltd from selling its camphor products. A single bench of Justice R I Chagla on July 8 noted that Patanjali, in an affidavit submitted in June, admitted breach of the earlier order granting injunction against sale of the impugned camphor products. «Such persistent breach of the injunction order dated 30th August 2023 by defendant no. 1 (Patanjali) cannot be tolerated by this court,» Justice Chagla said in the order, a copy of which was made available on Wednesday.

BJP, its govt at Centre playing Kejriwal's life: AAP MP Sanjay Singh
BJP and its government at the Centre are playing with the life of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who has lost 8.5 kg and whose blood sugar level dropped below 50 mg/dL five times while in jail, AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh claimed on Saturday. There was no immediate reaction from the BJP on his claims. «His health condition is such that if he is not brought out of jail soon and provided medical care, any serious incident may happen with him,» Singh said at a press conference. He said Kejriwal's weight was 70 kg when he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in the excise policy-linked money laundering case. Now, his weight has reduced to 61.5 kg, he claimed.

Delhi HC upholds CCI's approval of Vistara-Air India merger
Delhi High Court has rejected a petition against the Competition Commission of India's last year’s order that approved the merger of Tata SIA Airlines, which operates under the brand name Vistara, with Air India. Tata SIA Airlines is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. While one Captain Deepak Kumar, a former Air India pilot, had alleged cartelisation and bid rigging in the merger of the two airlines, the antitrust watchdog had in December dismissed his plea, noting the absence of any substantive evidence to back the allegations.

Kharge accuses BJP-RSS of promoting 'Education Mafia' amid NEET-UG 2024 controversy
Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the central government, claiming that the BJP-RSS administration has promoted an "education mafia" by taking control of the entire education system. Kharge also reiterated the demand for a re-examination of the NEET-UG. On 'X', Kharge wrote, «The Modi Government has told the honorable Supreme Court that no paper has been leaked in NEET-UG! This blatant lie is being told to lakhs of youth. Their future is being ruined. The Ministry of Education has said that 'irregularities/cheating have taken place only in a few places.' This is misleading. The BJP-RSS has promoted the education mafia by taking control of the entire education system.»

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal victim of 'deep political conspiracy', people need to rally behind him, says wife Sunita
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal alleged on Saturday that her husband was a victim of a «deep political conspiracy» and urged the people to rally behind him or else no educated and honest person would like to join politics. In her first video message after the Lok Sabha results, she alleged that Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in the excise policy case based on a «false» statement by a witness and repeated the allegations levelled by the Aam Aadmi Party leaders against Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MSR), who was recently elected to Lok Sabha on a TDP ticket, and his son Raghava Magunta, an accused-turned-approver. She said Kejriwal was a normal, educated, patriotic and staunchly honest man, and no educated and honest person in the country will enter politics if Delhi people do not support him. The ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal based on the statement of TDP MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MSR). The Telugu Desam Party is a constituent of the ruling NDA, she said.

Written submissions to courts could speed up the delivery of justice
In their book, The Court on Trial, Aparna Chandra, Sital Kalantry and William Hubbard have taken a data-driven approach to assessing the performance of the Indian Supreme Court. Using data-sets created from over a million Supreme Court cases, they try to find answers to whether our apex court is in fact a “people’s court"; whether certain individuals (senior counsels with high name recognition) have inordinate influence on outcomes; whether the Chief Justice (as Master of the Roster) has outsize influence through the ability to strategically assign cases to benches of his or her choice; and whether the promise of post-retirement postings could influence judicial decisions towards the end of a judge’s term.

Court says social media influencer Andrew Tate can leave Romania but remain in EU as he awaits trial
BUCHAREST, Romania: A court in Romania's capital ruled Friday that social media influencer Andrew Tate can leave Romania but must remain within the European Union as he awaits trial on charges of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. The Bucharest Tribunal's decision to allow Tate, 37, to leave the country was hailed by his spokesperson, Mateea Petrescu, as a «significant victory and a major step forward» in the case. It is not clear whether prosecutors can or will appeal the court's decision. Tate, a former professional kickboxer and dual British U.S. citizen, was initially arrested in December 2022 near Bucharest along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian women. Romanian prosecutors formally indicted all four in June last year and all four have denied the allegations.
