Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Rahul Gandhi takes sweet break from campaigning, buys 1 kg Gulab Jamun
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took a break from his hectic campaigning in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and visited a sweet shop in Singanallur. The owner, Babu, expressed his surprise at the sudden and unannounced visit of the Congress leader. «We were pleasantly surprised when Rahul Gandhi came by. He was probably visiting Coimbatore for a meeting. Since he likes (Gulab) Jamun, he bought a kilo of the sweet. He sampled the other sweets on display as well. I was happy that he came by. Our staff, too, were happy to see him. He was here for 25-30 minutes. We had no clue he would stop by and were all taken by surprise. We asked him not to pay but he insisted. He paid the whole amount,» the shop owner told ANI. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had criticized the BJP, labeling the Centre's electoral bond scheme as the «single biggest act of corruption done by anybody in the world». He made these remarks at a public meeting in Coimbatore, where he accused the BJP of operating a «washing machine» to cleanse the political system.

Live & let live should be the only dogma
dog. In this case, a beagle who was apparently about to be euthanised by his first 'family', presumably because of his long list of auto-immune ailments that need both expense and care. He was saved from a lethal injection and adopted by someone, who unfortunately passed away a few months ago, leaving him homeless again. My niece and her husband, newly weds, learnt of his plight and brought him home, much to the delight of my sister-in-law. That they all were mourning the recent passing of a furry family member may have had something to do with their wish to give a home to this beleaguered beagle. And now, in the afterglow of her new grandchild, my sister-in-law has decided to foster and will probably adopt a retired 10-year-old police dog, a dignified black Labrador. Meanwhile, also last week, the Karnataka High Court quashed a central government order banning 23 breeds of dogs citing their potentially dangerous nature. These include various types of terriers such as Pitbulls, shepherd dogs, the American Bulldog, and some mastiffs. The judgment appears to be on procedural grounds as it notes the government made the decision «without a recommendation from a properly constituted committee».

US techie sues TCS for discrimination against Americans and favouring Indians on H-1B visas
TCS) in the global consulting practice, has taken legal action against the tech giant, alleging discriminatory employment practices. In a lawsuit filed in a US court, Devorin claims that TCS exhibits bias towards H-1B visa-holder employees of Indian/South Asian origin while targeting older American workers for termination to make room for Indian nationals and «freshers». Devorin has demanded a jury trial to address these allegations of discrimination. According to the complaint, Devorin was informed in July last year that his team was disbanded, and he was required to apply for a consultant role directly on an engagement. Despite his persistent efforts through emails and applications, Devorin's attempts did not progress beyond the initial stage. He believes that the resource management group intentionally hindered his applications. In contrast, a younger Indian employee swiftly secured a role and was offered multiple positions, none of which were extended to Devorin.

Excise policy case: Manish Sisodia moves Delhi court seeking interim bail for election campaigning
Manish Sisodia, who has been arrested by the CBI and ED in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam case, on Friday moved a court here seeking interim bail for poll campaigning. Special Judge for the CBI and ED, Kaveri Baweja, is likely to take up the application for hearing later in the day. The CBI as well as the ED have alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Delhi excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, licence fee was waived or reduced and licences were extended without the competent authority's approval. The beneficiaries allegedly diverted «illegal» gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection, the probe agencies have alleged.

FIR filed against Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar after U'khand NGO Pleasant Valley goes to court over 'scam'
Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and his subordinate YVVJ Rajasekhar following the orders of a court in Uttarakhand's Almora town. On March 2, the court admitted a complaint by an NGO, Pleasant Valley Foundation, against the officials and asked the revenue police to register a case against them and investigate the charges. Pleasant Valley Foundation alleged that the officials sent four people to a school run by the NGO in Dadakada village on February 14. The four men vandalised the office chamber of the NGO's joint secretary and took away files, records, documents and pen drives which contained evidence of their involvement in scams. They allegedly threatened to frame the NGO's officials if complaints of corruption filed by it against them with the Vigilance department and other forums were not immediately withdrawn, the complainant said.

Decision to quit AAP wasn't taken under pressure: Raaj Kumar Anand
Delhi government and quitting the AAP, Raaj Kumar Anand asserted on Thursday that he did not take the decision under any pressure but was unable to tolerate «injustice». The Patel Nagar MLA also kept people guessing about his next move by saying that «politics is a game of possibilities and no one knows what lies ahead in the future», even as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have claimed that he might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Anand is still «technically» a minister although he has resigned, officials said. «He has claimed to have sent his resignation to the Chief Minister's Office but the chief minister is in judicial custody. There is no possibility in the near future that his resignation letter will reach the chief minister for his approval,» a senior Delhi government officer said on Thursday.
