Fali S Nariman passed away on Wednesday, at the age of 95. Nariman was a senior advocate of the Supreme Court and an eminent jurist. Awarded both the Padma Bhushan, in January 1991, and the Padma Vibhushan, in 2007, the veteran was a practicing lawyer for over seven decades. Nariman enrolled as an advocate of the Bombay High Court in November 1950, and was designated a senior advocate in 1961. In 1972, he was appointed Additional Solicitor General of India. In June 1975, he resigned from his post to protest against the decision of the Indira Gandhi government to declare emergency. For a decade, from 1991 to 2010, Nariman was the president of the Bar Association of India. In addition, he held various positions of note, including the vice-chairmanship of the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Paris, from 1989 to 2005, and the presidency of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration.

VirnetX's bid to revive a $502.8 million jury verdict it won against Apple in a dispute over internet-security patents. The justices turned away Zephyr Cove, Nevada-based VirnetX's appeal of a lower court's decision to overturn the verdict against Cupertino, California-based Apple that had been reached by a jury in Tyler, Texas.
