Banks "barking up the wrong tree" over CBDC deposit flight says ECB
In a blog post, the ECB is at pains to debunk a number of myths about the role of a future digital euro, insisting that the new digital currency would be designed from the outset to preserve the economic function of commercial banks. It achieves this by placing strict limits on individual digital euro holdings and restricting merchants from hoarding digital euros processed at the checkout. Nor would the digital euro accrue interest - a feature which former Bank of England economist Andy Haldane has called out as "stealth tax scandal". Users would be able to seamlessly link their digital euro account to a payment account with their bank, says the ECB, enabling a 'reverse waterfall' mechanism.

Tejashwi to embark on 'Jan Vishwas Yatra' across Bihar in bid to win public trust
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday will embark on a whirlwind tour of Bihar, during which he is likely to cover all 38 districts of the state within a span of 11 days. Evocatively titled 'Jan Vishwas Yatra', a mass outreach programme aimed at winning «public trust», Yadav, who recently lost the deputy chief minister's post, will commence the tour from Muzaffarpur. He is scheduled to address two more public meetings, in Sitamarhi and Sheohar, before reaching Motihari, the town where East Champaran district is headquartered, for a night halt. On the eve of the commencement of the tour, Yadav went live on Facebook late on Monday evening when he called Chief Minister Nitish Kumar an «old-fashioned leader who would do well to give up his chair on his own».

How a narrower CAD helps stabilise the rupee
rupee was the most stable emerging market currency in the past year amid global economic uncertainty. What are the factors that contributed to its relative stability? It is largely the narrowing current account deficit (CAD), besides robust economic fundamentals. Atmadip Ray explains how CAD influences the rupee movement and what are the consequences of a high deficit ratio. What is CAD? A country's current account is a calculation of the total value of goods and services imported and exported. If the value of goods and services imported exceeds the value of goods and services exported, then the current account turns into deficit mode. It considers the sum of trade balance and net income of companies from abroad. The current account deficit or surplus is expressed as a percentage of gross domestic product.

FD interest of up to 9%: 9 banks that offer high interest rates on fixed deposits
Small finance banks (SFBs) often offer comparatively higher interest rates on fixed deposits (FDs) than what private and public sector banks offer. Interest rates on FDs usually range from 8 to 8.5% in small finance banks now. Higher returns can be lucrative for many but how safe is it to invest in FDs in small finance banks? Do remember that deposits in small finance banks are covered under the insurance scheme provided by Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) to the tune of Rs 5 lakh. The amount includes both principal amount and interest. POTD, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana interest rates hiked; investors who will get higher rates on these small saving schemes Here's a look at some of these small finance banks that provide relatively high-interest rates for regular fixed deposits.

Car insurance: Why should you opt for ‘Pay as You Drive’ cover?
vehicle insurance incurs regardless of the vehicle’s usage? What if you take your car out of the garage only once a week for a short drive. Effectively, less car usage means lower possibility of collision and therefore, leads to fewer insurance claims. This should, ideally, incentivise the policyholder to pay a lower premium but it doesn’t happen in a standard comprehensive car insurance plan.
