Investing.com — U.S. futures traded higher Thursday, continuing the recent positive sentiment ahead of the latest data on producer prices, with investors looking for more clues guiding future Federal Reserve monetary policy.

SAG- AFTRA, Screen Actors Guild- American Federation of Radio and Television and AMPTP, Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers had a contract which is set to expire on July 12, 2023. SAG- AFTRA represents around 1,60,000 actors, hosts, stunt actors, media professionals, announcers, and other staff. If the strike goes on which is expected to be firmly taking place after the contract ends on July 12, many of the film projects will be on pause or may end. According to the contract agreement, AFTRA members receive and agree on all the terms and conditions under the agreement i.e., pay, wages, working conditions, etc. Every 3 years, the contract is renewed. SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP represent production companies, streaming services like Disney, Paramount, and Netflix. SAG members here are planning to go on a strike in place of better payments, working conditions, and other related factors. As there is a change in the TV culture, television, and movie-watching system, so is the nature of actors' paychecks. Actors are in demand of better payments and job security. The strike if happens, will adversely affect Hollywood projects, TV shows, and movies and the audience will have to wait for longer for their favourite shows. News and Broadcast programs will however be unaffected. Actors will not be permitted to promote their forthcoming projects.

Walt Disney's board on Wednesday extended Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger's contract by two years as the experienced leader who came out of retirement in 2022 battles long-term challenges to its film and television businesses. The board said in a statement that it aimed to maintain «continuity of leadership during the company's ongoing transformation.» Iger returned to Disney as CEO in November 2022, less than a year after he retired, vowing to stay for two more years to restore the business while seeking a more durable replacement after the company pushed out Bob Chapek, Iger's hand-picked successor. «There is more to accomplish before this transformative work is complete,» Iger said in a statement, adding that the board was continuing to interview internal and external CEO candidates.

Sony’s latest film, Insidious: The Red Door, has brought back the footfalls in theatres for the horror genre. Red Door’s opening box office collections stand at $32.65 million, which is the second-best opening in the Insidious franchise’s history. Insidious: Chapter 2 is still the first, with a $40.2 million opening 10 years ago. Red Door has beaten Harrison Ford’s swan song Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, taking it to second place with a $26.5 million second weekend. Red Door also boasts of the best opening for a PG-13 horror movie post-lockdown. Sony/Marvel film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, also beat Disney/Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 as the highest-grossing movie of the summer, $357.6 million to $357.5 million. Insidious: The Red Door has the cast of the original film, including Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Leigh Whannell and Lin Shaye, with direction by Wilson as his debut.
