Rajeev Shukla on Sunday said that the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 23. He made the announcement after the BCCI Special General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday. Further, the BCCI has announced the appointment of a new commissioner for IPL for a one-year term. The next meeting is scheduled for January 18-19 and will finalise the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Amit Shah on Sunday said veteran politician Sharad Pawar played politics of betrayal and treachery in Maharashtra from 1978, which was ended by BJP's massive victory in the assembly polls with its resolve to establish a stable government. Addressing a state BJP convention in Shirdi, Shah said the people of Maharashtra showed Pawar, who heads NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray their place by rejecting the politics of dynasty and betrayal in last year's elections. Similarly, the politics of the dynasty and the betrayal of Uddhav Thackeray was also rejected. People showed Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray their place in 2024 polls,» Shah said.

Election Commission of India against the BJP, accusing it of spreading misinformation and violating the Model Code of Conduct. The complaint alleges that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shared a false video on social media, depicting pothole-ridden roads as being located in Delhi when they were actually from Faridabad, Haryana. «The party (BJP) has been spreading misinformation through a false video on their social media channels, showcasing roads in Delhi in a deplorable condition. However, it has been exposed that the road featured in the video is actually located in Faridabad, Haryana,» said the AAP's complaint letter. The letter attaches screenshots of tweets posted from the BJP's Delhi handle, where the purported videos were shared.

BJP-led NDA has decided to boycott the Erode East bypoll scheduled for February 5 and would focus on dethroning the ruling DMK in the hustings next year, the saffron party's state unit said on Sunday. BJP's announcement virtually makes the election a no-contest as main opposition AIADMK and the DMDK have already announced boycotting the by-election, necessitated by the death of Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan. DMK has nominated VC Chandrakumar on behalf of its-led bloc, which also has the Congress in the alliance. BJP TN chief K Annamalai said the upcoming election was a «by-election for a by-election,» following the bypoll held here in 2022. He recalled there were accusations of the ruling DMK then «confining» people at designated places.

Election Commission has asserted it is a «vital instrumentality» aimed at providing level playing field in polls. According to the bills brought by the government to implement 'one nation, one election', there is an imperative need for holding simultaneous elections for various reasons including polls becoming expensive and time-consuming. The Constitution amendment bill to implement 'one nation, one election' said the imposition of a Model Code of Conduct in poll-bound parts of the country puts on hold the entire development programmes and causes disruption in normal public life. It said that frequent poll code imposition also impacts the functioning of services and diverts the man manpower from their core activities to election duties for prolonged periods.

Sanjay Raut on Sunday said his party wants to go solo in the local bodies polls to strengthen its base and has never called for dissolution of the opposition INDIA bloc or the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Raut's remarks came a day after he cited the lack of opportunities for workers of respective parties in an alliance and the right to organisational growth as the major considerations for contesting solo, which raised a question mark over the opposition bloc's unity. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Raut said, «The MVA was formed for the assembly polls and INDIA bloc for the Lok Sabha elections. The local body elections are meant to empower party workers and strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.» «I or my party have never said that the INDIA bloc or the MVA should be dissolved,» the Rajya Sabha member added.

Elon Musk has called on the people of Germany to «say no» to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. His statement comes after Germany's ruling Social Democrats (SPD) on Saturday announced Scholz as the party's candidate for federal elections set to take place on December 23. Musk made the statement on X in response to two news reports — one about SPD nominating Scholz for German Chancellor again and another June 24 report that said that a woman convicted of «offending» migrant gang rapists receives longer prison sentences than the rapists. Congress that if the opposition alliance is broken will not be able to join together again, the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Sena on Saturday announced that they would be fighting the Mumbai, Thane,Pune, Nagpur and all other municipal and other local body polls on their own and not in an alliance with its allies Congress and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party. «We have decided that for all the local municipal elections from Mumbai to Nagpur we will be going solo. Whatever happens we will see.»said Sanjay Raut Rajya Sabha MP of the UBT Sena. Raut said that the UBT had decided to fight on its own as it wants to expand its party and feels that if the party goes into an alliance with the Congress and NCPSP for the local body polls it would mean lesser seats for its grassroot workers. «When would our grass root workers get an opportunity to fight elections? Hence all local body polls like Municipal Polls,zilla parishad and Panchayat polls would be contested by our party independently.»said Raut.

If you are not able to do anything against Arvind Kejriwal, then you should leave the government. BJP will give all the benefits… Arvind Kejriwal is the only CM who did not resign even after going to jail,» Shah said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The list includes 29 candidates, with Kapil Mishra set to contest from Karawal Nagar. Delhi is set to undergo polling on February 5, with counting of votes scheduled for February 8. In a meeting chaired by National President J.P. BJP of attempting to deceive the Election Commission by submitting fake voter registration applications in large numbers from the residential addresses of its leaders. Addressing a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that dozens of voter registration applications had been filed from single small shops and basements. He also accused the BJP of submitting multiple new voter registration applications using the residential addresses of their leaders. «This is the reality of the biggest political party in India. This is how Prime Minister Modi's party plans to win the elections,» Singh said, listing the names of BJP leaders, including union ministers, for their alleged involvement in the issue.

Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be officially elected as the BCCI secretary and treasurer respectively during the Special General Meeting (SGM) here on Sunday. Saikia and Prabhtej were the only candidates in the fray for the vacant posts once BCCI electoral officer and former CEC of India, Achal Kumar Joti finalised the list on Tuesday. Saikia has been working as the BCCI interim secretary since Jay Shah took over as the ICC chairman on December 1. The BCCI constitution stipulates that any post lying vacant should be filled within 45 days by calling a SGM, and Sunday's meeting is well within that period, holding on the 43rd day.

Kamala Harris is competent to run for presidency again in four years, outgoing US President Joe Biden said Friday, noting that the decision on this would finally be on her. «I think that's a decision she might think she's competent to run again in four years. That'll be a decision for her to make,» Biden told reporters at a news conference here. Biden made history in 2020 by appointing Harris as the first ever Indian American, African American and woman as the Vice President of the country. In the summer of 2024, after a disastrous presidential debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta, Biden withdrew from the race and went ahead to endorse Harris for presidency. Harris soon became the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.
