Lok Sabha Elections: Dissent over BJP candidates grows in Gujarat
Bharatiya Kanata Party (BJP) is facing some serious resistance against its Lok Sabha candidate in its citadel Gujarat, arguably for the first time in its electoral history. While resistance towards Shobhna Baraiya who replaced Bhikhaji Thakor in Sabarkantha is getting aggressive by days, the Kshatriya community across the state is up in arms against Union Minister Parshottam Rupala who is contesting from Rajkot for his comment allegedly denigrating the community. Baraiya was fielded after controversy erupted over the caste identity of Bhikhaji Thakor, BJP’s initial candidate for Sabarkantha. She, for the records happens to be the wife of Mahendrasinh Baraiya former Congress MLA who joined BJP in August 2022. Thakor’s supporters had observed a bandh in his support in Meghraj town in Aravalli district on Tuesday and the party workers in large numbers had reached the BJP office in Modasa to protest necessitating strong security arrangements.

Lok Sabha polls: It looks bleak for BRS; battle mainly between Congress & BJP in Telangana
Hyderabad: As K Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) faces an unprecedented downslide following the arrest of Nizamabad MLC K Kavitha and continued exits from the party, the contest in Telangana is fast becoming a Congress versus BJP battle. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, BRS had bagged nine Lok Sabha seats, BJP four and Congress three. All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen had retained Hyderabad. However, 2024 promises to be a different number game. As on date, more than half of BJP candidates in Telangana have BRS antecedents, with the bulk of them shifting loyalties this month only. The state's ruling party, Congress, is giving stiff competition to BJP as it has welcomed a slew of BRS MPs and MLAs into its fold in the run-up to the May 13 elections.

Govt revises MNREGS wages for FY25, Jairam Ramesh says Congress will give higher
Congress on Thursday attacked the Modi government after it notified revised MGNREGS wages for 2024-25, saying the daily wage rates in all states are well below the Rs 400 a day promised by the party under its 'Shramik NYAY' guarantees. The Union government has reportedly notified the revised wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said MGNREGA wages are revised annually with effect from April 1. «For 2024/25, the Modi Government has just announced revised MGNREGA wages. Leaving aside the issue of whether this violates the spirit of the Model Code of Conduct in view of the forthcoming elections, the announced daily wage rates in ALL states are well below the Rs 400 a day, which is part of the 'Shramik NYAY' Guarantees of the Indian National Congress,» he said.

Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Sena faction on Thursday bluntly told the Congress party that if it wants to harbor ambitions of it leading the country and its party leader becoming the Prime Minister of the country then it should let the UBT have the Sangli Lok Sabha seat. “Congress is a big party, we believe that the Congress is to lead the country, we (UBT) don’t want to lead it. We want the Prime Minister of the country to be from the Congress party. For just one seat (Sangli) are you ready to lose the Prime Minister’s post, they (Congress) should think it over.”said UBT Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut. Referring to threats of the local leadership of Sangli announcing that they would not be working for the UBT candidate, Raut warned, “ If someone is talking of a boycott then it is very dangerous for the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, if the same situation happens in other constituencies in the state then who would be responsible.”
