As Lok Sabha election battle heats up, 'garbage', 'trash bins' become part of political discourse in Madhya Pradesh
Congress leaders to the BJP in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, terms like 'garbage' and 'trash bins' have become part of the political discourse as the opposition party is using them to target the turncoats while the ruling party is seen hitting back in the same style. After a Congress leader termed his party turncoats as garbage, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders also hit back at the opposition party with the «trash bin» remark. Senior Congress leader K K Mishra, media advisor to state party chief Jitu Patwari, recently said the BJP has become a dustbin, into which the trash of the Congress is being thrown. Another senior Congress leader and party's national secretary Satyanarayan Patel last week equated the turncoats with the garbage thrown into dumping grounds. Asked about the dustbin jibe of Congress leaders, state cabinet minister Prahlad Patel told reporters on Friday, «The Narendra Modi government has put up two-three bins for the garbage, including those for dry, wet and medical waste. Now medical waste is remaining.» Reacting to the minister's comment, K K Mishra told PTI that the BJP has finally accepted the truth.

ED files first chargesheet in Delhi Jal Board money-laundering case
Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed its first chargesheet in connection with a money-laundering probe linked to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), official sources said on Saturday. The prosecution complaint was filed by the federal agency before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Delhi on March 28, the sources told PTI. Four individuals and a company have been named as the accused in the chargesheet — former DJB chief engineer Jagdish Kumar Arora, contractor Anil Kumar Agarwal, former NBCC general manager D K Mittal, one Tejinder Singh and NKG Infrastructure Limited. The ED has alleged that bribe money generated from corruption in a contract issued by the DJB was «passed on» as election funds to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. The agency had also summoned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in the case, but he did not depose before it.

President Joe Biden is lapping Donald Trump when it comes to campaign cash - and he'll need it
President Joe Biden's reelection campaign is raising gobs of cash. And it has an election-year strategy that, in a nutshell, aims to spend more — and spend faster. Not only has Biden aimed to show himself off as a fundraising juggernaut this month, but his campaign is also making significant early investments both on the ground and on the airwaves — hoping to create a massive organizational advantage that leaves Republican Donald Trump scrambling to catch up. But while the money pouring in has given Biden and the Democrats a major cash advantage, it's also becoming clear Biden will need it. Throughout his life in business and politics, Trump's provocations have earned him near limitless free media attention. Biden, meanwhile, has often struggled to cut through the noise with his own message despite holding the presidency.

At 30, Mukhtar Ansari showed no fear of law: Delhi Police official who arrested him in 1993
Muktar Ansari, who died after suffering cardiac arrest on Thursday, revealed everything «fearlessly» and «confidently» about his crime when he was arrested by a team of Delhi Police Crime Branch in connection with a highly sensational case in 1993. The case pertained to ransom for kidnapping a businessman from Lutyens Delhi. «He was around 30-years-old then, full of confidence and showing no fear of law. That was a highly sensational case in those days,» recalled Ashok Chand, a retired Delhi Police officer, who led the team and ensured the safe rescue of the businessman from Panchkula at the Punjab-Haryana border, 250 kilometers away from Delhi. Ansari and his two associates had demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the family members of the west Delhi-based businessman Ved Prakash Goel. The calls were made from a local phone booth of Panchkula, where they had hid Goel in a rented accommodation.

"Strict action against those trying to murder the democracy," Rahul Gandhi's 'Guarantee' after Congress gets I-T notices
Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that when they come to power, they will take «strict action» against those trying to «murder the democracy.» Accusing the Income Tax Department of double-standards, Congress on Friday alleged that while it has been penalised for «a violation of Rs 14 lakh», the income tax authorities were completely silent on «Rs 42 crore violation» by the BJP and that the violations by the ruling party at the Centre entailed a penalty of Rs 4,600 crore. «When the government changes, action will definitely be taken against those who 'murder the democracy'! And such action will be taken that no one will have the courage to do all this again. This is my guarantee,» Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Tax dept ignoring Rs 4,600 crore penalty on BJP but demanding Rs 135 crore from Congress: Mallikarjun Kharge
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP-led Centre on Friday of misusing institutions like the income-tax department, ED and CBI to subvert democracy and belittle the Constitution, and asked why is the I-T department being used as a weapon to harass the principal opposition party. He asserted that such actions would not deter the Congress from contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and vowed that his party will free the country's institutions from the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) «dictatorship». Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also hit out at the BJP, accusing it of indulging in «tax terrorism». «When the government changes, action will definitely be taken against those who have 'disrobed democracy'. And such exemplary action will be taken that no one will dare to do all this again. This is my guarantee,» Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.

Fresh plea filed in high court to remove Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi CM
Arvind Kejriwal from the post of Delhi chief minister. The petition was filed a day after a similar plea was dismissed by the Delhi High Court. On Thursday, the Delhi High Court rejected the PIL seeking the removal of Kejriwal from the post of Delhi chief minister, saying the petitioner did not show any legal provision prohibiting the Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader from running the government after arrest to warrant any judicial interference.
