COST Extreme performer track cover Headlines Headlines can be very misleading when it comes to China and India: Manish Singh
Manish Singh, CIO, Crossbridge Capital, says “I remain positive on China. I remain positive on emerging markets. What is going to happen is the pie is going to get bigger. We are going to have big global growth as the power of the US, power of the western world reduces and that means the cost of capital goes down in emerging markets. We have more growth and there will be rapid and bigger global growth. ”Let me begin with the Q2 US economic data. It is fair to say that even though it is slightly below estimates, 2.1% is telling us that things are back on track. There is definitely a recovery in the US economy and recession fears are receding. Is that a fair interpretation of the numbers?Anything at 2% and over is something that everyone should be very pleased about and it just keeps the recession fears at bay.

UPS Extreme Aware Climate change boosts risk of extreme wildfires 25%: study
Climate change has sharply boosted the risk of fast-spreading wildfires, according to a Californian study published Wednesday that offers lessons for prevention after recent disasters in Canada, Greece and Hawaii. Scientists at the Breakthrough Institute, a non-profit research centre, found that human-caused warming increased the frequency of «extreme» wildfires by 25 percent on average compared to the pre-industrial era, in a study in the journal Nature. Examining a series of blazes from 2003 to 2020, they used machine learning to analyse the link between higher average temperatures, dryer conditions and the fastest-spreading blazes — ones that burn more than 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares) a day. The impact of climate change varied from fire to fire. In certain partly dry conditions, global warming pushed the area beyond key thresholds, making extreme fires much more likely. In very dry conditions, the impact was less. «This means that we should pay the closest attention to the places and times that historically have experienced conditions just on the moist side of these thresholds, but which are being pushed over these thresholds onto the dry side by background warming,» lead author Patrick Brown told AFP. The researchers calculated that the risk could increase on average by 59 percent by the end of the century under a «low-emissions» scenario where global warming is limited to 1.8 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels, and up to 172 percent in an unbridled high-emissions scenario. Earth's surface has already warmed 1.2C. Using data from recorded fires, the researchers measured the probability of a given blaze turning into an «extreme» one.

UPS Target Extreme Strategy Align tenor What should be the investor strategy on fixed income? Rajeev Radhakrishnan explains
Rajeev Radhakrishnan, Head-Fixed Income, SBI Mutual Fund, says “the bigger comfort from a fixed income perspective today is that a significant amount of tightening has already been done. Secondly, even when you look at a one-year ahead estimate basis on inflation, even if you assume the expected average inflation to be about 5.5%, fixed income yields today are anywhere between 7% and 8% depending on tenors. So a one-year T-bill today is trading north of 7%. We still have real returns available in fixed income instruments in India today. That, apart from the diversification angle that you did mention initially, would be the key investment points from the Indian fixed income angle. ”A lot of data is coming in where investors are looking very keen on investing in fixed deposits and looking at the interest rate trajectory so far, where debt looks very attractive for all those investors who want to maybe rebalance their portfolio or have a debt exposure. But going ahead, what is the story that you see brewing because in India, if we talk about domestic triggers, inflation still remains a concern, monsoon is predicted to be a dampener in September also. Seeing the kind of situation that is emerging, what is likely on the interest rate front?Coming to some of the factors you mentioned in terms of potential risk factors from a fixed income market perspective, we still have inflation which is fairly elevated and above the upper end of the policy target.

Extreme show Arunachal Pradesh MLA writes to PM Modi; urges to raise map issue with Xi Jinping at G20 Summit
China released its standard map that included India's Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh, Congress MLA, Ninong Ering has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to raise the issue of People's Republic of China's aggression in the scheduled G20 Summit in Delhi on September 9-10. In his letter to the PM on Tuesday, the Congress leader said that the 'deliberate incident' on the part of the PRC has invoked deep resentment among the people of Arunachal Pradesh. «This unforeseen, unfortunate yet deliberate incident on the part of PRC has invoked deep resentment among the people of Arunachal Pradesh, it is in common knowledge that the PRC has earlier too tried to assert its claim over Arunachal Pradesh by renaming 11 locations in April 2023, 15 locations in 2021 and 6 places in 2017,» Ering said. The Congress MLA who represents the Pashighat-west seat, a constituency bordering the Chinese-controlled Tibet Autonomous Region, in the Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly, said that the recent release of the 'PRC Standard Map' is a culmination of their nefarious plans and a matter of importance since Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and has scarred memories of the 1962 Sino-Indian war. In his letter, he also mentioned the Galwan Valley clash between the troops of India and China. «As you know, India is engaged in combat with an aggressive PRC along the Indo-Tibetan border in the Himalayas and 20 of Indian Army personnel gave their lives while defending India's frontiers against the PLA in Galwan Valley in 2020. Prior to this, you have emphasized that no one can seize an inch of India's land.

Extreme COMPOSITE rock Chandrayaan-3 rover confirms presence of sulphur on Moon
Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Tuesday evening announced that the payload or instruments aboard the Pragyan rover of the Chandrayaan-3 mission has confirmed the presence of sulphur and other chemical elements, as expected, on the lunar surface near the south pole, and that the search for hydrogen is underway. This is something that was not feasible by the instruments onboard the orbiters, Isro said. The space agency said that in-situ (meaning at its place or position) scientific experiments continue with the Chandrayaan-3 mission. "Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument onboard the rover unambiguously confirms the presence of sulphur on the lunar surface near the south pole, through first-ever in-situ measurements," Isro said. Other chemical elements have also been detected, as expected, the space agency said. Search for hydrogen is underway, it said. The other chemical elements that have been detected on the lunar surface are aluminium, calcium, iron, chromium, titanium, manganese, silicon, and oxygen. The LIBS instrument was developed at the Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS)/Isro, Bengaluru.
