As per a TOI report, the incident prompted the university's registrar to issue a statement on August 28, affirming the seriousness with which they regard matters related to food preparation.
The registrar's note read, «We have taken cognisance of a matter relating to food preparation by a food service company with extreme seriousness.
We have ensured that the food material will not be used for consumption by members of the JGU community.» The university's immediate response included issuing a show-cause notice to the CEO of the food service company, demanding a written explanation and assurances regarding the incident. The university also emphasized that strict actions would be taken against all parties involved in such unacceptable practices surrounding food and dining services.
Further steps were taken as the university investigated the matter comprehensively.
«Subsequently, we have visited the kitchen and the dining areas to ensure all corrective measures are immediately taken up. We had meetings with all stakeholders, including students, in addition to having elaborate discussions with the top leadership of the food service company,» the note added.
Addressing concerns raised by the student council, the university affirmed its commitment to ensuring food services that adhere to the highest standards of safety and hygiene.
