Tech View: Nifty charts signal more consolidation ahead. Here’s how to trade on Tuesday
Nifty ended Monday’s range-bound session 31.5 points higher to form a small red candle on the daily chart, which signalled hesitation after Friday’s upside breakout. The short-term trend of Nifty continues to be positive. Having placed at the key overhead resistance around 24,700, there is a possibility of some more consolidation or minor dip in the next 1-2 sessions, before showing another round of upside breakout.

From El Niño to La Niña: Is respite finally in sight?
The scorching summer that India just trudged past was yet another reminder of a rapidly warming Earth, with temperatures soaring to almost 50° Celsius in one of our longest heatwave spells. The country logged more than 40,000 suspected cases of heatstroke, with a death toll of over 100 people. But 2024 stands out for another reason: a shift in the Pacific Ocean’s see-saw of warm and cool water along the equator, a phenomenon that distorts weather around the globe.

Urgent need to address USD 4 tn financing gap to accelerate progress on SDGs: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that inadequate access to developmental finance is hindering developing economies from achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and underscored the urgent need to address this USD 4 trillion annual financing gap. Addressing the third Voice of Global South Summit virtually, Sitharaman said that recent reports reveal that the implementation of many SDGs in developing economies is stagnating, with some indicators even regressing. The SDG financing gap is estimated to be USD 4 trillion annually for developing countries, she said. Observing that the global South is affected by global uncertainties, she said one in four developing countries will be poorer by the end of this year than they were before the pandemic as per a recent World Bank report.

earnings downgrade from Nuvama versus its earlier estimates of 15%. Cyclicals such as autos, industrials and metals faced earnings cuts while the same stabilised for IT and FMCG packs. Among key trends observed during the quarter, in domestic consumption, the gap between high-end and mass market demand narrowed with stronger segments such as passenger vehicles, hotels and jewellery slowing. FMCG, on the other hand, stabilised and durables posted a strong quarter owing to the heatwave, the Nuvama note said.

F&O Talk | Nifty Bank can rally up to 52,300 in short-term, hurdle at 50,800-50,900: Sudeep Shah of SBI Securities
Nifty is showing possibilities of a rebound from current levels, said Sudeep Shah, Deputy Vice President and Head of Technical & Derivatives Research, SBI Securities. «The zone of 50,800-50,900 will be the immediate hurdle for the index as 20- and 50-day EMA are placed in that region. Any sustainable move above the level of 50,900 will lead to sharp upside rally up to the level of 51,700, followed by 52,300 in the short term,” said Shah.

Fortnite returns on iPhones in EU, globally on Android
Android devices after a gap of four years, following legal measures by the EU, developer Epic Games said on Friday. Fortnite, created by Epic, a U.S.-based studio, and backed by China's Tencent, the world's largest game studio, launched in 2017 and its last-player-standing, «battle royale» format became an instant hit, drawing in millions of dedicated players. But in August 2020, Apple and Alphabet's Google removed Fortnite from their app stores for violating their guidelines by launching a payment feature, prompting several lawsuits challenging their rules of charging up to 30% commissions on payments.

Carlsberg to retain strategy post-full ownership of Indian ops, eyes accelerated investment
Carlsberg global chief executive officer Jacob Aarup-Andersen said the Danish brewer does not need a new strategy for the Indian market after it completes the deal to fully own the business in the market growing four times faster compared to the overall beer segment. Earlier this month, Carlsberg agreed to buy a third of its stake from Khetan group, its joint venture partner, to take full ownership of the India and Nepal operations. «We do expect to get full control of the business in a couple of months once the process has run its course. It's going to allow us to accelerate investments to capture the long-term opportunities in these markets,» Andersen told investors, adding it was too early for us to start laying out the strategy for India.

Indian investors value sustainability but struggle to access trustworthy data: Deloitte
Indian institutional investors now consider sustainability information essential in their due diligence process, a study by Deloitte and The Fletcher School at Tufts University said, adding as sustainability becomes more integral to investment management, trust in the ESG data used to inform these decisions is lacking, posing challenges in accessing trustworthy data. «According to Indian investors, the inconsistency or incomparability of ESG rating data (73 per cent), cost constraints on integrating ESG data into investment decision models (71 per cent) and lack of measurable outcomes in corporate disclosures (70 per cent) reduce the trust factor of available sustainability data, inhibiting their ability to implement ESG investment strategies,» Deloitte said citing its study titled 'Investor trust in sustainability data'. The study further highlights that Indian investors are more likely to trust in-house proprietary data systems and audited (or assured) corporate disclosures for sustainability analysis. However, as compared with global investors, Indian investors are less likely to rely on external data sources and ratings.

Kamala Harris making huge gains in Rust Belt states, says poll
Kamala Harris is gaining ground in the Rust Belt. The states that were once the US manufacturing centers, employing a large part of the population in manufacturing jobs, voted heavily in favor of Donald Trump in 2016. But, Axios has reported that Kamala Harris has closed the gap in the region comprising Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Harris's increased popularity is in contrast to FiveThirtyEight's national average when Joe Biden trailed Donald Trump by 2.4 percentage points in Michigan, 2.3 percentage points in Wisconsin, and 4.4 percentage points in Pennsylvania.
