RBI proposes changes in wilful defaulter norms
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed a transparent mechanism for declaring a borrower a wilful defaulter. It's also expanding the definition and is planning to make it harder for such defaulters to secure funding for future ventures. The move follows a Supreme Court decision earlier this year that made it mandatory for lenders to give borrowers a chance to represent themselves before declaring an account as fraudulent. The central bank has also laid down a lengthy system of identification to make it foolproof.

NIA seeks info on 10 accused of attack on San Francisco consulate
National Investigation Agency on Thursday released pictures of 10 accused and sought information about them from the public. Once the perpetrators are identified, look out notices will be issued against them, said officials. According to the NIA, the case was registered after an attack on the Indian consulate in the US city during the intervening night of March 18-19 when some pro-Khalistan entities allegedly trespassed into the consulate and tried to burn it down. The same day, Khalistani supporters, raising slogans, had broken through the makeshift security barriers raised by the San Francisco Police and put up two so-called Khalistani flags on the consulate premises, damaged the building and assaulted and injured the officials, said an NIA in a statement. On the July 1-2 night, some accused persons trespassed into the consulate and attempted to set it on fire while officials were inside the building, it said. The NIA initiated a probe into the matter after registering a case on June 16 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
