Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said the BJP-led government at the Centre would not last long as it has been formed through «intimidation». While addressing the mega 'Martyrs' Day' rally of the TMC, Banerjee lauded Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who was present at the programme, for his party's performance in the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh. «The government at the Centre won't last long. This is not a stable government and will collapse soon,» she said. While praising Akhilesh Yadav, the TMC supremo said, «The 'Khel' (game) you played in UP should have forced the BJP government (in UP) to resign, but the shameless government is continuing in power by misusing agencies and other means.»

Centre should stop stepmotherly treatment towards Delhi, give city its due in Budget: Atishi
Atishi on Friday demanded Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre for infrastructure development, claiming the city government got nothing in return over the past year despite its income tax contribution of Rs 2 lakh crore. Delhi also provided Rs 25,000 crore as central GST to the pool of taxes, the minister said during a press conference here. Ahead of the presentation of the Centre's annual budget, Atishi batted for release of more money to Delhi, saying it could be spent on infrastructure development in road, transport and power sectors as well as to beautify the city. Asserting that people of Delhi are the highest income tax payers, the minister said, «Delhi should get Rs 10,000 crore from the Rs 2.07 lakh crores that people of the city pay as income tax. This amount of Rs 10,000 crore is just 0.25 per cent of the Central government's budget and only 5 per cent of the income tax of Delhiites.»

Hit-and-run cases: Won't let influential persons manipulate system, says Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde
Eknath Shinde on Monday stressed the state administration's zero tolerance for injustice and directed the police to handle hit-and-run incidents involving powerful and influential individuals with utmost seriousness to ensure justice is served. Shinde's statement follows a hit-and-run incident involving a BMW car allegedly driven by the son of a Shinde-led Shiv Sena leader who fatally knocked down a 45-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter in Mumbai. Expressing his deep concern over the rising number of hit-and-run cases in Maharashtra, Shinde said, «It is intolerable that the powerful and influential misuse their status to manipulate the system. Such miscarriages of justice will not be tolerated by my government.» He underlined the importance of protecting the lives of ordinary citizens and directed the state police to treat these cases with the highest priority.

CM Siddaramaiah challenges BJP to stage demo against Centre over injustice to Karnataka
fuel price hike, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday challenged the party to organise demonstrations against the Centre over «injustice» to the State. Petrol prices have gone up by Rs three per litre and diesel by Rs 3.5 per litre following the Karnataka government's decision to increase the sales tax on them on Saturday. The Chief Minister alleged that the State faced injustice by the BJP-led NDA government in its share of central funds and GST devolution and in matters relating to release of funds for State projects and dared the BJP to hold protests over this. Siddaramaiah said the crude oil prices were ruling at USD 113 per barrel at some stage during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but presently, it is at USD 82.35. In 2015, the crude oil price was USD 52 per barrel, which decreased further in the next year, he claimed.

BJP accuses AAP of circulating 'edited' videos to malign Swati Maliwal
Delhi BJP Saturday accused AAP leaders of circulating «edited» videos to tarnish the image of their own party MP Swati Maliwal, who has accused an aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of assaulting her. It is regrettable that «edited» videos are being circulated on social media groups since Friday in an attempt to «defame» Maliwal who is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police arrested Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar who has been accused by Maliwal of assaulting her at the CM's residence on Monday. A couple of videos from the chief minister's residence from the day of the incident have surfaced on social media, one showed Maliwal having an argument with security personnel, while the other showed her walking out of the CM's residence in the Civil Lines.

BJP fends off 'statute change' charge in some Maharashtra seats after Hegde's comment
Congress' campaign trail. BJP is also smarting under the remarks made by its Karnataka leader Anantkumar Hegde, who in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls said that BJP would need a two-thirds majority to change the Constitution. This has turned into a convenient weapon in the Maharashtra Opposition parties' arsenal as they have successfully spun out a narrative that if BJP comes to power, it would remove reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs. BJP has got vibes from the ground that there is a consolidation of Scheduled Caste community votes against BJP in the state. BJP has tried to counter this charge with the PM repeatedly alleging 'Congress injustice' on SCs, STs and OBCs and pointing to Karnataka's reservation for Muslims under the OBC quota. BJP's repeated emphasis on SCs, STs and OBCs comes as it senses that poll arithmetic in Maharashtra has changed considerably since the 2019 parliamentary polls. This time it looks like the Dalits and Muslims seem to be backing Congress-Sena-NCP (SP) alliance in the state.

Delhi HC asks NBCC to return Rs 76L with interest to homebuyer, awards Rs 5L compensation
Delhi High Court has asked NBCC to refund over 76 lakh along with interest to a homebuyer after it failed to deliver possession of his flat, bought it 2012, and also awarded compensation of Rs 5 lakh for causing «extreme mental agony». Justice Subramonium Prasad, while allowing the homebuyer's petition against NBCC, observed that purchasing a house is one of the most significant investments an individual or a family makes in their lifetime, and it often involves years of savings, meticulous planning and emotional investment, and therefore compensating wronged homebuyers is not just a matter of rectifying past injustices but also about deterring future misconduct. The petitioner, a retired government employee, said he purchased the flat in 'NBCC Green View Apartments', a project launched in 2012 for Gurugram, but in spite of paying the entire sale price of over Rs 76 lakh in 2017, the unit was never handed over to him. In the order passed on May 8, the court observed that the petitioner has been deprived of his money for the last 10 years and «structurally defective houses» have been constructed, leaving him in a complete lurch, and NBCC should be «dealt with severely» for reluctance to pay interest on the amount and ensuring the petitioner's rehabilitation.

With just two days left for polling, BJP's Kshatriya leaders on Sunday issued a joint statement appealing to the community to show a big heart and embrace the Sanskrit verse «kshama virasya bhushanam» (forgiveness is the ornament of the brave).

Rahul Gandhi always wear a white T-shirt? The Congress leader has not one but two reasons — it conveys "transparency" and "simplicity". Gandhi answers several such light-hearted questions in a more than two-minute video released by the Congress on its social media channels. In the video captioned «A day campaigning in Karnataka. Some light rapid fire questions and some very illustrious company», Gandhi also talks about his take on the importance of ideology. «In my view, you cannot go as a large organisation towards power without a clear understanding of the ideology. We have to convince the people of our ideology which is pro-poor, pro-women, plural, treating everybody equally,» he says.
