Economic Offences Court here has dismissed the bail application of Tarun Konduru Raju, who was arrested on March 10 for his alleged role in a gold smuggling case involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) strongly opposed Raju's bail plea, citing concerns that he could abscond if released.

Amazon's self-driving unit Zoox agreed to recall 258 vehicles due to issues with its automated driving system that could cause unexpected hard braking, after a US investigation, according to a company filing Wednesday. The recall affects vehicles equipped with self-driving software versions released before November 5. The California-based company said it has addressed the issue by updating the software on the company-owned vehicles. In May, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a probe into self-driving Zoox vehicles due to unexpected braking leading to two rear-end collisions that injured motorcyclists.

NIA has prayed to the High Court to reject the plea as it is not maintainable. The plea is listed for hearing tomorrow beside the High Court. NIA had filed an affidavit pursuant to the order passed by the Division bench headed by Justice Prathiba M Singh on March 12. It is stated that the present appeal under Section 21 of the NIA Act, 2008 of Appellant accused Abdul Rashid Sheikh, seeking interim bail or alternate custody parole to attend the Fourth Parliamentary Winter Session of Lok Sabha from March 11 — April 4, be rejected as not maintainable and also liable to be dismissed, on merits. The NIA has also stated that the appellant's mere status as a Parliamentarian does not entitle him to claim any exception from the effect of being in judicial custody.

Investigators opened a case against him at the weekend after Sergei Zaitsev, the head of a self-styled public movement named Zov Naroda (Call of the People), complained that the beggar could be a casualty of Russia's war in Ukraine. «His jokes, mocking an invalid — essentially our soldier who lost his legs in the special military operation — cross all boundaries of morality and ethics,» Zaitsev said. Ostanin, in a subsequent online interview, denied the accusations and said there was not a word in the joke about the Ukraine war. But on Tuesday, investigators said in a statement that he had been arrested on suspicion of inciting hatred and debasing human dignity, an offence that carries a jail term of up to six years.

Destiny Church, to violate teenage boys has been convicted and jailed for his despicable acts. The 29-year-old Kiwa Hemi Tamati Edward Hamiora-Te Hira had in December 2024 pleaded guilty to the charges of sexual offences and was on Monday (March 17) sentenced to six years and four months in prison by the Manukau District Court. While reading out the sentence to Hamiora-Te Hira, Judge Clare Bennett observed that his victims were aged between 13 and 24 years. They had come to the convict, who was a member of the Destiny Church, for counselling where he won their trust and then went on to sexually abuse them, the judge noted. The convict was working with Boys2Men and Youth Nation when he met his victims who were young boys then. Hamiora-Te Hira was found guilty after many of his victims described the details of what transpired between them. One of the victims described Hamiora-Te Hira as a «brother and a father figure», outlining the deep faith and trust they had placed on the perpetrator. «He was like a brother… father figure to me. I have flashbacks and nightmares about what happened,» stated the victim. Judge Bennett pointed out that Hamiora-Te Hira was “persistent and pernicious” in his predatory behaviour.
