POCSO Act case: Bengaluru court issues summons to Yediyurappa to appear on July 15
summons to former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to appear before it on July 15 in connection with a POCSO Act case filed against him. The Criminal Investigation Department had filed a charge sheet against the BJP leader at Fast Track Court 1 for POCSO Act cases here on June 27. A day later, the Karnataka High Court extended its interim order restraining the CID from arresting Yediyurappa after allowing the prosecution to file objections to the petition filed by him seeking quashing of the FIR against him, and then adjourned a further hearing by two weeks. The CID, probing charges against Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting a minor girl, has alleged in the charge sheet that he and three other accused paid money to the alleged victim and her mother to buy their silence.

US cyber crimes: Overseas scammers are swiping billions from Americans every year, and getting away with it
scammers are winning. Sophisticated overseas criminals are stealing tens of billions of dollars from Americans every year, a crime wave projected to get worse as the U.S. population ages and technology like AI makes it easier than ever to perpetrate fraud and get away with it. Internet and telephone scams have grown «exponentially,» overwhelming police and prosecutors who catch and convict relatively few of the perpetrators, said Kathy Stokes, director of fraud prevention at AARP's Fraud Watch Network.

IIT-Madras student stabs three over stray dog's death
IIT-Madras, Archan Bhattacharya, from Sonarpur near Kolkata, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly stabbing and grievously injuring a neighbour of a family friend, along with the neighbour's wife and son. The attack was reportedly in retaliation for the killing of a stray dog, according to Monotosh Chakraborty in a TOI report. Archan, who travelled from Chennai, has been charged with multiple offences, including attempted murder. The injured family members are receiving treatment at MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata. Investigators revealed that the dispute arose between the families of Gobindo Adhikari and Subhash Debnath, who have been long-time neighbours in the Chouhati area of Sonarpur. The conflict centred around the Debnath family's practice of feeding stray dogs, which the Adhikari family claimed led to the animals entering their house. In May, the Adhikaris allegedly beat one of the stray dogs, which succumbed to its injuries a few days later.

UP-Hathras Stampede: How crowding, humidity led to 121 deaths in Hathras horror. What we know so far
Uttar Pradesh, a tragic stampede during a religious congregation led by 'Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba' has claimed the lives of at least 121 people, leaving over 300 others injured. The victims, predominantly women and children, were part of a massive crowd that had gathered near Phulrai village in the Sikandrarau area. The stampede left over 300 people injured, overwhelming local medical facilities. The stampede occurred around 3:30 PM as thousands of attendees rushed to touch the feet of Bhole Baba, whose real name is Surajpal, a former police officer turned religious preacher. According to eyewitnesses, parts of the ground had become boggy due to water overflowing from a nearby drain, causing people to slip and fall over one another. Overcrowding was cited as a primary factor, with attendance far exceeding the 80,000 figure mentioned in the event organizers' application. Reports indicated that nearly 2.5 lakh people attended the 'satsang'. Prakash Kumar, an injured attendee from Aligarh, recounted, “There was a large crowd at the site. There was no way out, and people fell on each other and fainted. When I tried to move out, there were motorcycles parked outside, which blocked my way.”

Quant Mutual Fund crisis is another lesson in diversification. Here's how
Diversification in the investment world is not limited to spreading your bets across asset classes and stocks but Sebi's investigation against Quant Mutual Fund in a front-running case is also a reminder of concentration risk in owning mutual funds from just one asset management company. We have seen returns of Axis Mutual Fund getting affected for some time after the front-running case it was embroiled in and now we have Quant's example. Investors whose portfolios have only Quant Mutual Fund schemes are now worried. The important question that comes is how important is diversifying across mutual fund companies for an investor?

Wockhardt shares skyrocket 18% to fresh 52-week high. Here’s why?
Wockhardt rallied 18% in early trade to its new 52-week high of Rs 811.50 on NSE. The sharp surge was after the company announced the successful use of its investigational antibiotic, Zaynich (Zidebactam/CefepimeWCK 5222) to treat a cancer patient in the US. The hospital (Children's Hospital of Orange County) sought access to Zaynich, for a young immune-compromised cancer patient, who had been hospitalized for nearly nine months, under a provision termed as ‘Expanded Access IND’ granted by the USFDA.
