Mobile phone manufacturing in value terms jumped 21-fold to Rs 4.1 lakh crore in India in the last 10 years as government policy measures like PLI played a critical role in attracting global players to boost local production, industry body ICEA said in a statement. India now produces 97 per cent of its total mobile phone demand locally and 30 per cent of the total production in financial year 2024 is meant for export, the India Cellular and Electronics Association said. «Mobile phone production surged from Rs 18,900 crore in 2014-15 to an estimated Rs 4,10,000 crore in FY'24, registering an increase of 2000 per cent. In 2014-15, mobile phone exports from India were a mere Rs 1,556 crore. The industry expects to end FY24 with an estimated export of Rs 1,20,000 crore. This would mean a 7500 per cent increase in exports over a decade,» ICEA said. Indian Banks' Association (IBA) and bank employee unions have reached a consensus on an annual wage hike of 17 per cent, a move that is expected to have a substantial impact on public sector banks. This decision will lead to an additional yearly expenditure of approximately Rs 8,284 crore for these banks, benefiting around 8 lakh bank employees. The wage hike is set to take effect from November 2022. The All India Bank Officers' Confederation announced that as part of the agreement, all Saturdays will be recognized as holidays, subject to government notification. The revised working hours will come into effect upon government notification.

The prices of high-end electric vehicles in Karnataka are set to increase as the state government has decided to collect a lifetime tax of 10% of the vehicle's cost at the time of registration. The new rule will apply to electric cars, jeeps, and buses, the govt said in a notification. Karnataka has been giving tax exemption for EVs for the last seven years, irrespective of the price range, to promote eco-friendly mobility systems. However, the govt is now rethinking its policy in view of the increasing number of luxury EVs which are being brought by the affluent people.

The All India Bank Officers' Confederation stated in a press statement that discussions between the Indian Banks Association and the All India Bank Officers' Confederation had been successfully concluded, culminating in the signing of the 9th Joint Note on March 8, 2024. According to the press release, “The Joint Note recognizes all Saturdays as holidays, pending government notification. Nipen Das, superintendent of Dibrugarh Central Jail, in connection with objectionable material found in the cell of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and his nine associates, who are lodged in the Jail. It was observed that there were lapses in security inside the jail where the NSA detainees are lodged. Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police (crime) Sizal Agarwal said Das was arrested under Section 13(1)B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 75 of Assam Prisons Act. Objectionable material, including mobiles and spy cameras, were recovered from the jail. Das was arrested on the basis of a case registered in connection with the incident.
