In his address during the 44th General Assembly of Olympic Council of Asiada here on Sunday, former Japan Olympic Committee president Tsunekazu Takeda, informed that continental showpiece to be co-hosted by the Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya will have no Olympic village. «We will not have the Games Village as the Games will be held in two prefectures. Instead we are trying our best to accommodate athletes and dignitaries in hotels and cruise ships,» Takeda said while briefing about the Games preparations. «We have arranged for cruise ships for 4,000 athletes and officials besides hotel rooms,» added Takeda, the vice president of 2026 Asian Games.

sports administrator Randhir Singh on Sunday became the first Indian to be elected as the president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during the 44th General Assembly of the continental body here. A five-time Olympic shooter, Randhir was the lone eligible candidate for the OCA president's post. His tenure will run from 2024 till 2028, and his election was unanimous. The 77-year-old Randhir has been the OCA acting president since 2021, filling in for Kuwait's Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who was handed a 15-year ban from sports administration in May this year over ethics breaches. Randhir, who held different administrative posts in Indian and Asian sports bodies, was officially named OCA president in the presence of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and top sports leaders from all 45 countries of Asia.

I had thought I would get some time off and I would sleep, have rest, and stay at home. But I haven’t got time to do all that. I am not complaining (laughs). I am enjoying this phase also.

Wrestling Federation of India President and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Saturday termed Congress leaders and wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajran Punia «khalnayak» (villains). On September 6, the two ace wrestlers joined the Congress almost a month before the Haryana assembly polls. Brij Bhushan said, «Vo khalnayak hai Haryana ke. Visheshkar khildaiyo ke (They are villains of Haryana, especially to athletes).»

His father, also a first-class cricketer, Bhalindra Singh, was also an IOC Member between 1947 and 1992.

Congress leader Pawan Khera slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, saying that the BJP takes a stand for those who do wrong and that the Congress raises their voice against the wrong, following claims made by former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh that the wrestler's protest was politically motivated by the Congress. Speaking to ANI, Khera said, «Whoever does wrong, the BJP stands with them and they are with the BJP. Whoever is wronged, Congress fights for them and raises their voice and will raise it in the future too and that is why they also like Congress.» «Six players had filed an FIR against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Have you seen what sections he was accused of? How dare he speak like this? We are proud that we stood, are standing and will stand with our daughters,» Khera added.

Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joining the Congress party on Friday, Haryana Assembly Speaker and BJP leader Gian Chand Gupta alleged that the former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda sponsored the «Vinesh Phogat's protest» at Jantar Mantar and that such things should not happen in sports. «The way Bhupinder Singh Hooda sponsored Vinesh Phogat's protest in Jantar Mantar and she was given such special treatment, and what the former WFI president said about her getting a special recommendation to get promoted, in sports, such things must not happen,» Gupta said on Saturday. He further stated that Congress has fully exposed itself by indulging in politics with athletes by fielding Phogat from the Julana constituency for the upcoming Haryana polls.

Speaking to on Saturday, Brij Bhushan said that just when the wrestler's protest started at Jantar Mantar in January last year, he had claimed that it was not a movement of sportspersons and Congress was behind it, led by Bhupinder Hooda. «On 18th January 2023, when the protest started at Jantar Mantar, I said that this is not a movement of sportspersons, Congress is behind it. Especially Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka ji, and Rahul ji. This is a movement of Congress. And today this thing has been proved. In this entire movement, the conspiracy that happened against us, Congress was involved in it and Bhupinder Hooda was leading it,» he said.
