In Europe, China faces headwinds but can India gain?
Indian companies are also not usually running second to the Chinese in many sectors, especially in cutting-edge technology domains. The pressures on or exit of Chinese companies under Europe’s new laws, thus, might not necessarily create openings for Indian companies to take advantage of. What is, therefore, likely to happen, is similar to what has happened with Indian expectations of friend-shoring.

Soon travel time between Mumbai and Pune to come down to just 2 hours. Here is the latest update
Mumbai-Pune commuters will have to wait a bit longer for smoother travel as the completion of the crucial cable-stayed bridge, a pivotal part of the Rs 6,695 crore missing link project, faces delays. Despite initial projections for a July deadline this year, the bridge's construction may extend until March of the following year, delaying the anticipated reduction in travel time by half an hour, a Mumbai Mirror report stated. Challenges and Delays: Anil Kumar Gaikwad, the Managing Director of MSRDC, elucidated the complexities hindering the project's timeline. Factors such as the formidable task of erecting four 182-meter-tall pylons amidst the valley's relentless winds and precarious visibility conditions have contributed to the delay. Moreover, the exigencies imposed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the logistical hurdles of deploying skilled workers to lofty heights, have compounded the construction challenges. Anticipated Impact on Travel: The completion of the missing link project holds significant promise for streamlining travel between Mumbai and Pune, offering a respite from the arduous journey through the ghat section. With 85% of the Expressway's current traffic expected to migrate to the new route upon its inauguration, commuters can anticipate a smoother and more time-efficient journey. The project aims to bypass the treacherous Khandala ghat section, thereby trimming the distance between the two bustling cities by over 6 kilometers and slashing travel time by nearly 30 minutes.

Being a workaholic does not help your career
Journal Of Occupational Health Psychology, which included 139 full-time employees in Italy, concluded that most workaholic employees are unhappy with their life both outside and inside the office, as compared to those who stepped back from work from time to time. There’s enough research to show that millennials (typically those born between 1981 and 1996) forfeit time off for several reasons, from being afraid of their superiors, to constantly worrying about maintaining a pristine reputation before their bosses.

The penicillin war: India's journey from self-sufficiency to dependence on China
Sir Alexander Fleming returned to his lab in St. Mary’s Hospital in London, a big surprise was waiting. He found a blue-green mould growing in one of the petri dishes. Intrigued, his mind went probing on the cause of contamination. Soon Fleming realised he had stumbled upon a discovery that would be hailed as one of the world’s biggest medical breakthroughs. By sheer serendipity, Fleming found the mould had destroyed colonies of staphylococcal bacteria around it. Penicillin — the nemesis for the deadliest bacterial infections — was born. Gruelling work followed. In 1945, Fleming along with his legendary team of researchers Ernst Chain and Sir Howard Florey were awarded the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine. As World War II unleashed deaths and miseries, a miracle weapon armed doctors against life-threatening bacterial infections. Until then, minor cuts or bruises carried risks of deaths. Penicillin saved lives of soldiers grievously injured during the war. An article in Science Museum describes the quick build-up to make the drug. It says such was its demand that scientists used every conceivable object — from bed pans to bathtubs — to store volumes of broth for the fermentation process. Gallons of mould broth were needed to get a fingernail of penicillin, says the article. With time, as scientists developed better methods of extraction, it spawned dozens of producers across Europe and the US.

AAP 'urban Naxal party', win for candidate backed by it will bring Maoist menace, says Amit Shah
Amit Shah on Saturday called AAP an "urban Naxal party" and said Maoist menace would raise its head in the region if the opposition candidate wins from Valsad Lok Sabha seat. The Aam Aadmi Party is fighting the Gujarat polls in alliance with the Congress, which has fielded its Vansda (ST) MLA Anant Patel from Valsad. Addressing a rally in support of BJP candidate Dhaval Patel in Vansda, Shah said, «The Congress and urban Naxal party AAP have come together to disturb the peace of this tribal region. Do you want extortion to start in Valsad? Will you allow Naxalism to raise its head in our forest areas?» «Naxalism and urban naxalism will begin here if their candidate wins,» Shah asserted. Shah claimed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's «misinformation» about the vaccination drive during the coronavirus pandemic led to the death of many tribals. «Rahul asked tribals not to take the vaccine and termed it as Modi vaccine. However, both brother and sister (Priyanka Gandhi) secretly took the vaccine in the night.

How crazy would it be if Warren Buffett bought Boeing?
Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s annual meeting on Saturday: Warren Buffett should buy Boeing Co. The idea may sound outlandish on the surface because it rubs against Berkshire’s conservative nature. There’s also the sticking point that Buffett doesn’t do turnarounds and that he wants companies with strong leadership. Then again, Buffett likes to bet on American manufacturing, and he favors industries with moats. Check and check. Also, the upside for Boeing, if the planemaker can get its house in order, is huge.

Dabur reinvests margin gains in advertising. Will it fuel growth?
₹659 in September 2021 following strong results in the June 2021 quarter (Q1FY22) during which it clocked 34% volume growth year-on-year. Ignoring that it had come off a low base owing to the impact of the covid-19 pandemic in the base quarter, investors extrapolated such strong growth would continue well into the future. This optimism has come at a cost, as the stock price still lags nearly 15% below its peak even after almost three years.
