IT hardware sales may drop as govt pares expenditure
general elections shall impact the sales of laptops, desktops and other IT hardware in the first half of 2024 as the government will slow down IT procurement spending, industry experts told ET. In the commercial segment, IT hardware sales in the first half of the calendar year are expected to remain flattish at the year-earlier levels of about 2.9 million units which was already comparatively weak, according to data from market tracker firm International Data Corporation (IDC). When compared to the first half of calendar year 2022, the segment might see a decline of 24%, IDC said. Consumer sales might also follow a similar pattern as sales might drop by 17% to 3.4 million units when compared to the first half of 2022, IDC predictions showed.

Cruises are more popular than ever—and investors are late to the party
Still looking for an amazing deal on a cruise? Four years after Covid-19 shut the industry down, a brief golden age of uncrowded decks and deep discounts has come to an end. With ships sailing at capacity and prime cabins selling out quickly, grabbing an offer as the industry’s traditional “wave season" winds down this month might be wise. Investors are in more luck than travelers: Even though the lowest prices are off the table, bargains remain available in the shares of cruise lines—especially for those not put off by a bit of choppiness.

Vivo, Oppo say bye to Chinese 'agents,' bring in Indian ones
Vivo and Oppo are appointing Indian distributors in each state as the primary source of product supply to the trade to help resolve a long-standing point of conflict with the Centre. The aim is to localise the distribution structure in India, two industry executives said. Vivo and Oppo are the largest brands of China's biggest smartphone manufacturer BBK Group. Until now, the brands had one or two Chinese-owned and managed distribution companies in each state, referred to as agents. They would in turn channel goods to retailers through local distributors. From next month, Vivo will scrap its agents in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana, having put in place Indian distributors for these states. Lens on Chinese companies

Long weekend business booming for hotels, cruises, travel firms
Cordelia Cruises, said Cordelia has a 100% sold out status for this Mahashivratri long weekend as well as for a cruise starting on Holi. Close to 4,000 guests will be on board for both the cruises. “How Indians used to cruise has changed post the Covid-19 pandemic,” Bailom said. “One of our key strategies has been to ensure we cater to weekend travellers who would like to holiday without taking too much time off work,” he added. The long weekends business has turned out to be a money spinner for hotels and travel companies post the pandemic, and most key properties in the north and west are sold out for the long weekends this month. Some are available at very steep rates.
