'Keep shouting,' people have given a mandate to Congress to sit in opposition, says PM Modi
Congress in the 2024 elections, and the mandate of this country is that you sit there, sit in the opposition, and when the arguments end, keep shouting, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his reply to the motion of thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Further training his guns at the grand old party, PM Modi said that Congress has failed to cross even the 100-seat mark in three consecutive terms, and instead of introspecting, they are engaging in 'shirsasana' (headstand). The prime minister further accused Congress and its ecosystem of working incessantly to project victory over the BJP in elections.

What Sri Lanka can learn from Air India’s lengthy privatisation
Daily Mirror, quoted the Lankan civil aviation minister T D Abeysuriya as saying there were no “suitable suitors" for the country’s national carrier SriLankan Airlines. The minister hinted that the government may shelve its plans to sell the airline, and instead take on some of its debt and restructure it. SriLankan and Sri Lanka find themselves in a position that Air India and the government of India were in not too long ago. For years the Sri Lankan government has been bailing out its national carrier, which has a huge debt burden.

2024 Presidential Election: Is Kamala Harris distancing herself from Joe Biden while Congressional Black Caucus backs president?
Vice President Kamala Harris distancing herself from Joe Biden though she has hit the campaign trail for the incumbent president and the Democrat contender for the 2024 US Presidential Election? She tops the list of the probables if Biden pulls out of the race for the White House. This question was being asked because though she is campaigning for the Democrats, she mentioned Joe Biden's name only once in her about half an hour interview with 'Essence Fest'. The black women’s magazine held the event on Saturday in New Orleans. Kamala Harris has hit the headlines and many fellow Democrats have put pressure on Biden to withdraw and allow the vice president to challenge Republican contender Donald Trump since his reportedly pathetic performance on the June 27 presidential debate.

Judge delays Donald Trump's hush money sentencing to September 18
New York judge on Tuesday delayed Donald Trump's sentencing for his conviction on criminal charges stemming from hush money paid to a porn star until Sept. 18, after the former U.S. president asked for a chance to argue he should have been immune from prosecution. The sentencing had previously been set for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee on July 15. Trump is expected to be his party's nominee to challenge Democratic President Joe Biden in the Nov. 5 election. Trump faces an uphill battle getting the hush money conviction overturned, since much of the conduct at issue in the case predated his time in office. Trump's lawyers on Monday asked Justice Juan Merchan to allow them to argue his conviction in New York state court in Manhattan should be overturned due to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on July 1 that presidents are entitled to immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts. Prosecutors with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office said Trump's argument was «without merit,» but agreed to delay the sentencing to give Trump the chance to make his case. A Manhattan jury on May 30 found him guilty of falsifying business records to cover up his former lawyer Michael Cohen's $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to stay quiet about an alleged 2006 sexual encounter until after the 2016 election, when Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.

On his first day in office, Starmer will get briefings from senior civil servants about key issues facing the government, receive congratulatory phone calls from world leaders and begin the process of appointing his Cabinet. Here is a look at some of the other traditions and responsibilities he faces on his first day inside No. 10.

Is this Kamala Harris’s moment?
WASHINGTON—As President Biden continues to grapple with the fallout from his bad debate against former President Donald Trump, more Democrats are publicly and privately suggesting Vice President Kamala Harris is the only viable replacement if Biden were to bow out of the race. The president has insisted he will not step aside, arguing he is best positioned to defeat Trump in November. But Democrats are nonetheless weighing the possibilities ahead, including the prospect that the party might find itself scrambling to nominate a successor if Biden, 81, is unable to overcome the increased skepticism from donors, party strategists and some Democratic lawmakers over his political future.
