Kamala Harris unlikely to save the Democrats even if she replaces Biden, says a professor who accurately predicted 9 of the last 10 elections

Many Democrats who are desperately trying to replace Biden on the ballot box have found a consensus candidate in Vice-President Kamala Harris. Biden has not stepped down and has said that he intends to contest the election. As the Democrats grapple with this challenge, Allan Lichtman, a presidential historian and professor who had correctly predicted nine out of the last 10 elections, has a word of advice for the Democrats. Puri Rath Yatra 2024: 53 years later, a unique twist to celebrations this year. Timings, rituals and live streaming
This year's Rath Yatra will feature crucial rituals such as 'Nabajouban Darshan' and 'Netra Utsav' on Sunday. Typically, these rituals precede the Rath Yatra. 'Nabajouban Darshan' symbolizes the youthful appearance of the deities, who were secluded for 15 days in a ritual known as 'Anasara' (quarantine) following 'Snana Purnima'. Mythologically, the deities are said to fall ill after the excessive bathing ritual of 'Snana Purnima' and thus stay indoors. Before 'Nabajouban Darshan', priests perform 'Netra Utsav', where the deities' eyeballs are freshly painted. The Rath Yatra, also called the Chariot Festival, is considered to be as ancient as the Jagannath Temple itself. President Droupadi Murmu is expected to join the multitude of devotees witnessing the Rath Yatra on Sunday, for which the state government has arranged her visit meticulously. The Odisha government has implemented extensive measures to ensure the festival proceeds smoothly, even though it is usually organized within a single day. The chariots, stationed in front of the Lion's Gate of the Jagannath temple, will be transported to the Gundicha temple, where they will remain for a week. Devotees will pull the chariots on Sunday afternoon.

NATO summit puts Biden’s fitness under a microscope
WASHINGTON—The White House once hoped the NATO summit that opens Tuesday would showcase President Biden’s leadership of the trans-Atlantic alliance and his differences with Donald Trump. Instead it has become a pivotal test of his fitness for a second term. A solid performance during the three-day gathering of North Atlantic Treaty Organization leaders could help shore up his candidacy, reminding voters of his support for the 75-year-old military partnership that his predecessor regularly attacked.

The age question looms over America’s bosses
It’s time to confront an urgent question: Am I the leader I used to be? The risk of avoiding this question is playing out in Washington right now. And while the fate of the free world might not rest on the answer for most of us, the futures of our companies and co-workers just might. If an honest assessment reveals a lost step, it might mean making small adjustments such as cutting back hours.

Hathras stampede: UP govt hiding its failure by making minor arrests, says Akhilesh Yadav
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of trying to hide its failure in the Hathras stampede that killed 121 people by making "minor arrests". Yadav, in a post on 'X', said that it looks like such accidents will continue to happen since the state government does not seem to have learnt from the administrative lapses that led to the stampede. The SP chief also tagged a letter addressed to him in his post on X, in which, Ankit Yadav, a resident of Mainpuri district, claims that his father has been wrongly framed in connection with the stampede, and insists that his father has no link with the incident. In a post on 'X' in Hindi, Yadav said, «To hide its failure in the 'Hathras incident', the UP government wants to shirk responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of people by making minor arrests. If this happens, it will mean that no one has learnt any lesson from the administrative failure in such events and such accidents will keep repeating in the future.»

Jharkhand: Will Kalpana join husband Hemant Soren's cabinet after her CM dreams fade?
Hemant Soren preparing for his third term as Jharkhand’s chief minister, attention turns to whether she will join his cabinet. Kalpana's political ascent Kalpana’s life took a significant turn in March this year when she officially joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), over a month after Hemant’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). At 38, her transition from homemaker to politician saw her actively campaigning for the party, with Champai Soren’s backing, as JMM's face during the Lok Sabha elections. As per a TOI report, she conducted 151 election rallies, appeared alongside top INDIA bloc leaders, and secured a victory by over 22,000 votes in the Gandey assembly segment in Giridih district. This seat had been vacated by Hemant to bring her into the state assembly in case he was imprisoned due to the ongoing land scam investigation. Upon entering politics, Kalpana stated, «I will be ready to take on whatever responsibility the party gives me.» After her election from Gandey, she emphasised her commitment to accelerating development in her constituency ahead of the assembly elections.
