inner core of the Earth? According to the scientists, the Inner Core’s movement is slowing down and it is moving backwards. Scientists have observed the core of the Earth since 1936, despite it being a difficult task. It is not possible to directly observe the inner core of the Earth. Scientists use the P and S waves which emerge during an earthquake to study the core of the earth. It is the variation from these seismic waves that help the scientists study the inner core.
The differential rotation of the core is being studied by the scientists since 1970’s. It was only in the 1990’s that data pertaining to seismological movement was first published. Due to the remoteness and the struggles associated with the study of the inner core, scientists have been unable to arrive at a conclusion.
A study in 2023 noted that the inner core which had spun faster than the Earth itself, was now spinning slower. The scientists reported that it was spinning slower and moving backwards. At that period of time, more research was needed. Now, scientists have confirmed the study conducted in 2023. They have published these findings in the Nature Journal.
