US Fed should not act urgently when it's not required, Daly says
San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President Mary Daly said on Monday there is no urgency to cut U.S. interest rates, with the economy and labor market strong, and inflation still above the Fed's 2% target. «The worst thing to do is act urgently when urgency is not required,» Daly said at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. Daly is one of 19 U.S. central bankers who set U.S. monetary policy.

Indus Towers may benefit if Vi gets money and invests: Analysts
Indus Towers, India's leading tower company, could post 8% compound annual growth rate in operating income through FY24-27 if key customer Vodafone Idea (Vi) closes its much-awaited ₹45,000 crore fundraise on schedule and invests in network expansion, analysts said. Cash-strapped Vi said it will open a sale of new shares on April 18 and close on April 22 to raise up to ₹18,000 crore. This will be closely followed by a ₹25,000-crore fundraising via debt. The company has already approved raising ₹2,075 crore from a promoter entity through a preferential share issue. "...we are enthused by progress on the (Vi) fund raise and believe this should drive further upside for Indus Towers," Citi Research said in a recent report.

Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Three-way battle in 'Venice of the East' Alappuzha
Lok Sabha polls in Alappuzha, often referred to as the «Venice of the East,» gained attention as the Congress nominated its general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal to contest against A M Ariff, the sitting MP from the ruling CPI(M), and the BJP's dynamic leader Sobha Surendran. Like its famous boat racing events, where victory is determined by the pulling powers of the participants, the constituency has a history of swinging in favour of both the CPI(M)-led LDF and the Congress-led UDF, often making it difficult to predict election outcomes. The land of coir, backwaters, beaches, and marine products, the constituency also comprises places that played a significant role in major progressive movements in Kerala. Trying his luck in the constituency that he represented in 2009 and 2014, Venugopal is seeking votes, highlighting the alleged failures of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government in addressing the people's problems.

Modi's tenure as PM India's golden era: Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said Narendra Modi's tenure as prime minister marks India's golden era after independence. Addressing a rally here in support of BJP candidate from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha seat Ajay Bhatt, Adityanath attacked the Congress, saying it was at the root of the problems faced by the country but Modi rose to every challenge and resolved the issues. «Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure would be viewed as India's golden period post-independence,» he said. «Congress is in deep anguish due to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, which should actually be embraced. Chief Minister Dhami has taken a commendable step by introducing the Uniform Civil Code», he remarked.

Corruption rises when Congress comes to power; party now looking like 'Bigg Boss' house: Rajnath Singh
Rajnath Singh on Saturday claimed that corruption increases every time the Congress comes to power and likened the party to the reality show 'Bigg Boss', known for squabbles among participants. Addressing rallies in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada and Kanker districts, he said the Congress would be finished in the state after the Lok Sabha polls and extinct like dinosaurs in the next few years in the country. He also pitched for the 'one nation, one election' idea citing it would save time and resources. «Corruption increases whenever the Congress comes to power. Since Independence, the party has faced charges of corruption whenever it was in power,» said Singh during a rally at Geedam in Dantewada district. Even after being elected to power in Chhattisgarh in 2018, he said, «it committed scams including the one concerning cow dung».

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said his former ally should come clean on what the condition of the state was under the rule of 'Pati-Patni' for 15 years. «What was the situation in Bihar earlier? For 15 years, the state was under the rule of 'pati-patni'. Do you recall the days when no one was able to go out of their house in the evening? We were MPs and ministers at the Centre back in the day. But we had to visit our constituencies on foot due to lack of motorable roads,» Nitish said, in a jibe at the RJD chief and his wife and former CM Rabri Devi. "Yaad kariye inhone kabhi kuch kiya bhi ha? (See if you can remember if they did anything of note)," he said.

How GoI, regulators and fintech firms can unlock the full potential of India's digital financial revolution
Fintech is reshaping monetary interactions, and as India progresses towards a cashless society, it assumes a pivotal role, driving financial inclusion and enabling millions to transition to the formal financial sphere. This surge in fintech adoption has positioned India as a global fintech frontrunner. Its innovative solutions attract global investors, and position the country as a trailblazer in establishing a robust digital public infrastructure (DPI) ecosystem, a pivotal factor in enhancing financial inclusion. The dynamic DPI framework, strengthened by fintech advancements, is projected to inject a windfall of $400 bn into the economy in seven years. With an impressive 87% fintech adoption rate, India ranks No. 1, shattering global averages and bringing financial services to unbanked populations. However, it's important to remember that unchecked growth can be risky. Data breaches and unfair lending practices can undermine consumer trust and financial stability.
