Comedian Shyam Rangeela, who announced to contest against PM Narendra Modi, has alleged that officials are not letting him file nomination papers. Rangeela said that he is facing hurdles in his attempt to file nomination papers for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Rangeela, known for his mimicry and satirical acts, aimed to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Varanasi seat by running as an Independent candidate. Despite repeated efforts since May 10, Rangeela claimed he was refused entry to the district magistrate's office on the day Prime Minister Modi filed his nomination. He also clarified that he wouldn't be assembling a team from Sriganganagar to contest the elections in Varanasi. Expressing his determination, Rangeela stated, «Winning or losing is a different matter, but I will contest the elections against the Prime Minister at any cost. I am not contesting elections to become famous, I am already very famous among the public.»

Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed nomination papers from the prestigious seat. “They can reject by my papers. But at least, take the documents," Rangeela said in a social media post.

Murshidabad's Baharampur, where five-time MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress is taking on Trinamool candidate Yusuf Pathan and BJP's Nirmal Chandra Saha. Voting is scheduled for May 13. Naxalites, three of them carrying a cumulative reward of Rs 3 lakh, surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Sunday, a senior police official said. A 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy are among those who turned themselves in before the police, he said. These cadres were tasked with digging roads, felling trees to block roads and putting up posters and banners during shutdowns called by Naxalites, the official said. Of the surrendered Naxalites, Baman Kartam (39) was the Jiyakodta Panchayat Militia Platoon Commander of the outlawed Maoists organisation, while Bhima Kunjam (28) was the Aranpur Panchayat CNM president, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said.

On May 13, Modi will hold a roadshow in the constituency, and preparations for it are underway, he added «The route for the roadshow has been finalised. On May 14, Prime Minister Modi will file his nomination from the Varanasi seat,» he said. The Congress has fielded its Uttar Pradesh chief Ajay Rai in Varanasi and the BSP Athar Jamal Lari.

Chirag Paswan on Thursday filed his nomination papers from the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, where he has entered the fray to cement his position as the true heir to late father Ram Vilas Paswan's legacy. Chirag, who headed the Lok Janshakti Party floated by late Paswan till it was split by the latter's younger brother Pashupati Kumar Paras, now heads the LJP (Ram Vilas). The BJP, which had initially thrown its weight behind Paras, the sitting MP from Hajipur, who was also rewarded with the cabinet berth, decided to back Chirag Paswan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls this year.
