Karnataka gears for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26, the Election Commission on Wednesday said all the polling stations in the Bangalore Rural and Mysore constituencies will be webcast.As of now, a total of 189 cases have been booked against political parties or candidates for major violations under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), they said. Addressing a press conference, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Meena said 1.4 lakh polling officials will be on duty at the 30,602 polling stations across the 14 constituencies which are going for polls in the first phase on Friday. Besides them, 5,000 micro observers, 50,000 civil police personnel, 65 companies of Central Parliamentary Force and State Armed Police force of other states will also be deployed for security at these polling stations, he said.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Bishnu Pada Ray, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Andaman and Nicobar Islands has claimed that India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, "gifted" the Coco Islands, a part of northern Andaman Islands to Myanmar. Ray, who is the BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from the region also criticised the Congress for its allegedly "historical anti-India stance", in an interview with ANI on April 14. Ray claimed that Nehru had reportedly given the Coco Islands to Myanmar as a gift, the publication reported.

Delhi lieutenant-governor on Monday red-flagged to the Ministry of Home Affairs the «lack of seriousness» and «insensitivity» of Delhi ministers towards people-centric governance issues. L-G VK Saxena shot off a letter to the home ministry pointing out that AAP ministers — Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot and Atishi — have been refusing to attend meetings called by him on issues relating to health infrastructure and summer action plan. According to L-G Secretariat sources, Saxena had sought meetings with the ministers twice on March 29 and April 2. «An intimation was accordingly sent to Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Atishi Marlena and Saurabh Bharadwaj for a meeting by the Lt Governor on 02.04.2024. However, all the ministers have vide emails declined to attend the said meeting on the specious ground that since the model code of conduct is in force, such a meeting would not be appropriate at this stage,» the letter says adding, «Hon'ble Lt Governor believes that a consultation of this nature was warranted so that routine works of governance are not hampered, in the backdrop of the arrest and detention of the chief minister.»

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, in a letter addressed to the union home ministry, accused the ministers of “insensitivity and lack of seriousness. As per the letter, Governor Saxena had scheduled a meeting with key ministers dealing with the departments of water, education, health, transport, environment, and forest so that the routine works of governance are not hampered in the backdrop of Kejriwal's arrest.

Ballia (UP), The widow of a police constable who was shot dead by gangsters in 2005 expressed satisfaction on Saturday that Mukhtari Ansari, the man responsible for his husband's killing, was dead. On November 29, 2005, supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Krishnanand Rai were attacked in Basniya Chatti in Mohammadabad area of Ghazipur. Seven people, including Rai, were killed in the attack. One of the other victims was Nirbhay Upadhyay, a police constable from Nirupur village of Haldi Police Station area of Ballia.

INDIA bloc on Friday announced the seat-sharing for Bihar at a joint press conference in Patna. As per the agreement, RJD will contest 26 Lok Sabha seats out of 40, the highest by any political party in the state in the upcoming general election. The Congress will contest nine seats, the CPI (ML) will contest three seats and the CPI and CPI (M) will contest one seat each. «We have arrived at a unanimous decision, demonstrating a cohesiveness that you may not find in the NDA,» RJD leader Manoj Jha told media persons.
