Bombay High Court said on Wednesday that if the use of loudspeakers and sound systems beyond permissible noise levels was harmful during the Ganesh festival then it also has the same effect during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi processions. A division bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar made the remark while hearing a bunch of public interest litigations (PILs) seeking a ban on the use of «DJs», «dance» and «laser lights» during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi processions. The petitions urged HC to direct the civic bodies and police to refrain from granting permission for the use of such high-decibel sound systems. The PILs claimed that neither the Quran nor the Hadith (holy books) prescribes the use of DJ systems and laser lights for the celebration.

Reuven Azar, on Wednesday strongly condemned Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments on the treatment of minorities in India, calling the remarks «ridiculous» and hypocritical. Azar pointed out that while Khamenei lectures other nations, Iran itself is accused of suppressing freedoms and violating human rights. «It is really ridiculous that this radical leader is trying to lecture others while he is killing his own population oppressing freedoms like freedom of religion, freedom of speech, human rights that is completely outrageous and we hope Iranian people are going to be free one day from such oppression and tyranny coming from Khamenei,» Azar told PTI. Anil Bonde on the charge of intention to cause riots on Wednesday over his controversial remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, police said. Bonde has kicked up a row, saying Gandhi's tongue should be singed as his remarks on reservation were «dangerous» and hurt the feelings of the 'bahujan' and majority communities. The FIR against Bonde followed a sit-in protest by Congress leaders, including Amravati MP Balwant Wankhede, MLA Yashomati Thakur, former Minister Sunil Deshmukh and the party workers at the office of the city police commissioner. A case was registered against Bonde at Rajapeth police station in Amravati under sections 192 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riots), 351 (ii) (the act of intentionally causing another person to apprehend the use of criminal force) and 356 (Punishment for defamation) against MP Anil Bonde.

Indian Army on Wednesday sealed a pact with a premier organisation as part of efforts to boost its rescue and survival operations in mountainous terrains. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked with Tiranga Mountain Rescue (TMR) at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) in the presence of Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. «This understanding marks a pivotal step in advancing the Indian Army's rescue and survival operations in mountainous terrains,» an official readout said. «The MoU stipulates that TMR will collaborate with the Indian Army in conducting customised training programmes for Army instructors, aimed at improving their ability to mentor troops in avalanche rescue and survival skills,» it said.
