Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Act needs to be amended to protect such entities and settle disputes between buyers and sellers through an online dispute system, MSME secretary SCL Das said Saturday. Banks, while lending to such businesses, should also look at factors like cash flow and digital footprint besides balance sheet, he advised. «We need to amend the MSMED Act to make the legal mechanism for protecting MSMEs more effective, especially for settling disputes between buyers and sellers through an online dispute system,» Das said at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises.

Two Bank of America employees in India suspended
Bank of America (BofA) has placed two bankers in India on administrative leave as part of an internal investigation following a whistleblower complaint, alleging they had tipped off certain investors of upcoming secondary offerings, the Financial Times reported. The tip-off from the bankers — including a senior member of BofA's Indian investment banking operation — allowed the investors to «front run» the stock sales and profit from non-public information, FT said citing unnamed sources. While the BofA investigation is looking at a number of deals, it is focused on a $200-million stock sale for Sun Life, the life insurance subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Aditya Birla, in March, it said.

UnPrisoned canceled after Season 2: What did the producers say?
UnPrisoned, the Hulu series featuring Kerry Washington, has been officially canceled after two seasons. The news was shared directly by Washington on her Instagram account, where she expressed her disappointment but also profound gratitude for the journey of creating the show. The series, which premiered under Hulu’s Onyx Collective banner, was known for its strong focus on stories by creators of color and other underrepresented groups, as mentioned in a report by Decider. Washington, reflecting on the series’ abrupt conclusion, stated, «This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3. But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful.»

Wuhan is in the news again after the COVID-19 outbreak; this time a Chinese attack submarine sank at a shipyard in the city
Wuhan shipyard, one of China's most recent nuclear-powered assault submarines sank, a US official confirmed, as per reports by Business Insider. The Chinese submarine, which was recorded in the Wuchang shipyard in Wuhan in late May, is believed to be the newest Zhou-class ship. However, it sank at some point after that. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the occurrence. Big, floating cranes were close to the pier in June, according to satellite photos taken by Planet Labs after it sank. It's thought that China has been trying to recover the ship. It was the first submarine of its type to sink. Thomas Shugart, a retired US submarine officer and adjunct senior scholar at the Center for American Security think tank, initially shared pictures of cranes gathered around an object in the water on X in July, near the location where the new submarine had previously been. He also mentioned the oil containment boom and conjectured that odd things were going on. Shugart posted online satellite photos from July 5 that revealed the cranes had moved, presumably completing the presumed salvage operation.
