Notices issued against 24 people for protesting against Waqf Bill by wearing black badges in UP's Muzaffarnagar
The notices were issued by City Magistrate Vikas Kashyap on the police report, asking them to furnish bonds of Rs two lakh each after appearing before the court on April 16. These people were found protesting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and wearing black badges on their arms during last Friday prayers of Ramzan in different mosques here on March 28. The people who got notices issued against them said they wore black badges only to show protest in a democratic way. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tabled the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, asserting that the legislation is not against Muslims or intended to hurt their religious feelings, but seeks to improve the functioning of Waqf properties, address complexities, ensure transparency and introduce technology-driven management. The Lok Sabha passed the Bill by a 288-232 vote in the early hours of Thursday, after nearly 12 hours of debate, and the Rajya Sabha gave its nod to the legislation following an over 13-hour debate.

Tariffs stir talks: India, Vietnam and Israel hustle for deals with team Trump
These negotiations come just days after the US imposed a series of new tariffs affecting several nations, including a levy of 26% on India. According to Reuters, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the levies with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A State Department readout of their meeting confirmed that the tariff discussions are part of a broader diplomatic effort. The talks are centered on a relatively small subset of the countries impacted by the new tariffs, with both parties looking to strike deals. This is seen as the first phase of a larger set of negotiations, as countries begin to assess their next steps and responses to the tariff changes. On Friday, Vietnam, which is facing a 46% tariff on its exports to the US, announced that it intends to reduce its tariffs on US goods to zero, pending an agreement with the US.

Did Warren Buffett really call Trump’s tariff move ‘the best economic move in 50 years’?
Warren Buffett wants the world to know: he’s not cheering Donald Trump’s tariff spree. And he hasn’t said a word about it—despite what viral videos and presidential posts might suggest. Berkshire Hathaway issued a rare public statement on Friday, flatly denying that Buffett ever praised Trump’s recent economic measures. “There are reports currently circulating on social media (including Twitter, Facebook and TikTok) regarding comments allegedly made by Warren E. Buffett. All such reports are false,” the company said. The clarification came hours after US President Donald Trump shared a video on Truth Social claiming Buffett had declared Trump was making “the best economic moves he’s seen in over 50 years.” The video, originally posted by an Instagram user called «AmericanPapaBear,» suggested Trump was “crashing” the stock market on purpose to make equities cheaper for the middle class. Trump’s repost came just as global markets were convulsing in response to his new tariffs.

During the visit to a special operations unit on Friday, Kim said the «actual war capability for guaranteeing victory in the war field is bolstered up through intensive training,» the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported. He added that their training is «the most vivid expression of patriotism and loyalty to the country,» according to the agency. Images released by state media showed Kim peering through the scope of a sniper rifle that KCNA said was going to be «newly supplied to special operation units».

Marathon US Senate session under way over Trump's sweeping tax, budget steps
U.S. Senate began an overnight "vote-a-rama" marathon on Friday aimed at eventually handing Republican President Donald Trump sweeping legislation to extend tax cuts and achieve budget reductions in the face of staunch Democratic opposition. Republicans and Democrats were due to vote on dozens of amendments aimed at altering a budget framework for Trump's tax, border, immigration and military agenda, with a vote to pass the resolution expected in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday. Congress needs to pass the budget resolution to unlock a fast-track procedure to circumvent Democratic roadblocks and enact Trump's legislation in the months ahead. If the Senate approves the measure, it will move to the House of Representatives for consideration next week. Trump is pushing hard for Republicans, who narrowly control both chambers, to hand him what he calls «one big beautiful bill» that also would pay for additional resources for securing the U.S. border with Mexico, deporting immigrants and bolstering the military. Some Republicans said the path forward for Trump's agenda could be complicated by recession worries if financial markets continue to reel over the president's tariff policy.

Trump’s Tariff Shock: JPMorgan warns of recession, job losses, shrinking GDP, and soaring prices
U.S. economy is heading into troubled waters. That’s the latest warning from J.P. Morgan, which on Friday forecasted a full-year contraction in gross domestic product for 2025 — the first major Wall Street institution to do so. “We now expect real GDP to contract under the weight of the tariffs, and for the full year (4Q/4Q) we now look for real GDP growth of -0.3 per cent, down from 1.3 per cent previously,” said Michael Feroli, the firm’s chief U.S. economist, in a note to clients, as reported by Bloomberg. Feroli anticipates a two-quarter recession in the second half of 2025, with GDP shrinking 1% in Q3 and 0.5% in Q4. The cause? A dramatic escalation in U.S. trade policy under President Trump.
