Donald Trump tariffs sent US stock market into chaos. Here's how
US stock market has started witnessing a chaos. President Donald Trump's big raise in tariffs has triggered an escalating trade war and sent global markets plummeting. The S&P 500 fell 6 per cent on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 5.5 per cent and the Nasdaq composite dropped 5.8 per cent. Wall Street went into free fall, following similar collapses in Asia and Europe. For a second straight day, markets plunged, wiping vast sums off investment and retirement portfolios alike. US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell warned the tariffs were likely to spur «higher inflation and lower growth», as per an AFP report. Losses in US financial markets were estimated at more than $6 trillion since Trump unveiled his «Liberation Day» tariffs. Trump, who unveiled his barrage of import duties against dozens of countries Wednesday, was unrepentant, posting that «my policies will never change,» AFP reported. «This is a great time to get rich,» he wrote.

US Stock market's worst crisis since Covid 19: Check impact on Nasdaq, S&P 500, Dow Jones
US stock market has slipped into its worst crisis since Covid as bear market fear sets in Wall Street investors. Nasdaq composite dropped 5.8 per cent, Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 5.5 per cent, and S&P 500 fell 6 per cent. The losses came after China matched President Donald Trump’s big raise in tariffs announced earlier this week. Not even a better-than-expected report on the U.S. job market was enough to stop worries about the escalating trade war possibly causing a recession. The head of the Federal Reserve also warned about how tariffs can push up on inflation. On Friday, S&P 500 fell 322.44 points to 5,074.08, Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 2,231.07 points to 38,314.86, and Nasdaq composite sank 962.82 points to 15,587.79. Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 83.51 points, or 4.4 per cent, to 1,827.03. For the week, S&P 500 is down 506.86 points, or 9.1 per cent, Dow is down 3,269.04 points, or 7.9 per cent, Nasdaq is down 1,735.20 points, or 10 per cent, and Russell 2000 is down 196.24 points, or 9.7 per cent. For the year, S&P 500 is down 807.55 points, or 13.7 per cent, Dow is down 4,229.36 points, or 9.9 per cent, Nasdaq is down 3,723.01 points, or 19.3 per cent, and Russell 2000 is down 403.13 points, or 18.1 per cent.

Manipur: Rift deepens between former CM N Biren Singh and NPP
N Biren Singh and the National People’s Party (NPP) is getting wider. The NPP President Yumnam Joykumar Singh had blamed the Biren government for letting Meitei radical group Arambai Tenggol attack Kuki people. Several protesters attempted to storm the residence of National People’s Party (NPP) Manipur unit president Yumnam Joykumar Singh on Friday, demanding an apology over his recent remarks on Meitei organisation Arambai Tenggol. The protesters tried to force their way into Joykumar’s home in Naoremthong but were stopped by police deployed in the area. The protests were triggered by a post on X, in which Joykumar had written, “Biren Ji misjudged the Kuki-Meitei conflict’s roots… Why did his government allow massive rallies, withdraw commandos from Churachandpur, and let groups like Arambai Tenggol attack Kukis?” After meeting the women group Joykumar told reporters that the issue stemmed from a “slight misunderstanding” and confirmed that Arambai Tenggol’s name had been removed from the original post. However, he refused to tender a public apology. Former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh had recently asked Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma not to interfere in the internal matters of Manipur. Biren said that P.A. Sangma, the former Union Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker, had advocated a dangerous idea of breaking the northeast into smaller states along ethnic lines.

Mass layoffs by Donald Trump administration are hampering critical health services, including cancer, claims report
Among those ousted were its director, Dr. John Howard, who had been in the job through three previous presidential administrations, AP reported. The layoffs are stalling — and perhaps ending — many programmes, including a firefighter cancer registry and a lab that is key to certifying respirators for many industries, as per the report. The cuts are «a very pointed attack on workers in this country», said Micah Niemeier-Walsh, vice president of the union local representing NIOSH employees in Cincinnati. Unions that represent miners, nurses, flight attendants and other professions have criticized the cuts, saying it will slow the identification and prevention of workplace dangers. Rallies in Cincinnati and other cities drew not only fired CDC employees but also members of unions representing teachers, postal workers and bricklayers, Niemeier-Walsh said.

CSK vs DC, MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report: How will the surface at Chepauk play for today's match?
CSK has suffered back-to-back losses — including their heaviest-ever defeat at Chepauk against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and a narrow miss against Rajasthan Royals (RR). With the team returning home this Saturday, they'll be hoping to turn things around at their fortress. However, concerns linger over captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fitness after he sustained an injury in the previous game. Should he be unavailable, veteran MS Dhoni is expected to take over the captaincy reins once again. Frustration has also been building within the CSK camp regarding pitch conditions. Following the RCB loss, head coach Stephen Fleming was seen inspecting the surface with the curator. He later voiced concerns about the Chepauk pitches, which have failed to offer the spin support CSK had banked on while assembling their squad. Lucknow Super Giants' Justin Langer answers reporter's mom's call at 12:08 AM—And it's hilarious!
Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer had the press room in splits after he unexpectedly answered a phone call during the post-match press conference, moments after his team’s 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL. While responding to a question about injured pacer Mayank Yadav, Langer noticed a reporter's phone buzzing on the podium with “Mom” flashing on the screen. «Who's Maa?» he asked with a grin, then got the reporter’s nod before picking up the call. “Mom, it’s 12:08 AM, I’m at a press conference,” he said, triggering laughter across the room. Langer was clearly in a cheerful mood after LSG successfully defended 204 by restricting MI to 191/5 — a strong comeback after their previous defeat, and their second win in four matches.
