NEW DELHI : Falling water levels in hydro power dams are raising worries, as a looming summer threatens to turn up power demand and strain the electricity grid. Thanks to last year's late monsoon, scanty winter rains and lack of snowfall, reservoir levels fell 17% from a year earlier to 73.29 billion cubic metres (bcm) on Thursday, data from the Central Water Commission (CWC) showed. The levels are also nearly 3.6 percentage points below the 10-year average of 76.06 bcm.

Tie-Con Delhi-NCR, Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said that the government will invite bids from the industry under the mission and provide viability gap funding for GPU-based computing infrastructure. «The entire GPU approved under the mission will be made available in the next 18-24 months,» Krishnan said.

Battery electric vehicles will be, on average, cheaper to produce than a comparable internal combustion engine by 2027 thanks to new manufacturing methods that are lowering production costs, market research firm Gartner said on Thursday. Gartner expects production costs to drop considerably faster than the costs of batteries, which are the most expensive part of an EV and account for around 40% of the vehicle's price. Gartner said its analysis was driven by «innovations that simplify production costs such as centralized vehicle architecture or the introduction of gigacastings that help reduce manufacturing cost and assembly time.»

Individual stocks may witness correction because there was definitely a lot of euphoria and over-optimism, especially in smallcaps. So, there we are seeing pullbacks happening. But once the largecaps are done with, the second leg of the rally could very well spill over to the mid and smallcaps which is where we might see another rally happening, possibly in April and ahead.”

NEW DELHI : The Union cabinet on Thursday approved an India AI Mission, raised dearness allowance (DA) for central employees and pensioners and extended its flagship cooking gas subsidy scheme, clearing a slew of decisions ahead of the upcoming general elections. The ₹10,372 crore India AI Mission will aim to build a base of graphic processing units (GPUs), multi-modal domain-specific large language models (LLMs), and a unified data platform. It will offer an open-source database of non-personal data that can be used to train AI models and market artificial intelligence (AI) applications commercially.

Despite the broad-based tech bull market, times haven’t been easy in the EV space. From big boys like Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and BYD (OTC:BYDDF) to emerging startups such as Canoo (NASDAQ:GOEV) and Sono Group (OTC:SEVCQ), the industry appears to have lost momentum on both the equity and financial sides. 

Vodafone Idea (Vi) is set to gain from a slump in demand for 5G network gear globally, including India, that has dented recent earnings at companies such as Nokia and Ericsson. Despite the Indian telecom operator's precarious financial condition, global network equipment vendors are likely to prefer working with Vi, which still has more than 200 million users, but needs to urgently expand 4G network capacity and also start 5G rollouts to compete effectively with bigger rivals Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. «Given that Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are likely to cut capex spending in FY25, having virtually completed their pan-India 5G rollouts and seen little by way of monetisation, combined with the global slowdown in 5G deployments, network vendors would definitely welcome any fresh 5G contracts from Vi as long as they are on a cash & carry model,» a top executive at a leading global 5G equipment supplier told ET.
