Puja Khedkar from Indian Administrative Service with immediate effect, reported PTI quoting official sources. Khedkar has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits to ensure her selection in the service. She has denied all allegations. The central government, vide order dated September 6, 2024, discharged Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Service under Rule 12 of IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954, with immediate effect, the sources said. The rules allow the central government to discharge probationers from service if they fail «to pass the re-examination...» or «if the central government is satisfied that the probationer was ineligible for recruitment to the Service or is unsuitable for being a member of the Service», among others.

Astronomers in Arizona discovered the asteroid only a few hours before it entered Earth's atmosphere. Dramatic footage of the incident was shared online, showing a bright green fireball lighting up the sky and creating a stunning visual spectacle. The European Space Agency noted that 2024 RW1 is just the ninth asteroid ever to be detected before impact, showcasing advancements in the ability to foresee near-Earth objects. “There was a brilliant flare in the sky as the asteroid burnt up over the Philippine shore,” said NASA. Indian tax authorities are seeking dues of $101 million from education-technology company Byju's, once the country's biggest startup which is now undergoing an insolvency process, claim documents reviewed by Reuters on Friday showed. Backed by General Atlantic, Byju's was valued at $22 billion in 2022, but has seen its fortunes dwindle due to many regulatory issues and more recently a dispute with U.S. lenders who are demanding $1 billion in unpaid dues, triggering the company's insolvency that led to an assets freeze.

IndiGo Airlines issued an apology on Saturday after passengers aboard the Delhi-Varanasi flight faced difficulties after the aircraft's air conditioning system malfunctioned and led to chaotic conditions in the aircraft. China's central bank held back on buying gold for its reserves for a fourth straight month in August, official data showed on Saturday. China's gold holdings stood at 72.8 million fine troy ounces at the end of last month. The value of the gold reserves, however, rose to $182.98 billion compared with $176.64 billion at the end of July.

Scoot flight from Singapore to the Chinese city of Guangzhou hit turbulence. One person was taken to the hospital, The Straits Times reported. Scoot said the flight encountered turbulence as it was approaching Guangzhou on Friday morning, adding that the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft landed uneventfully at 9.10 am local time. Scoot flight TR100 departed from Singapore around 5.45 am, The Straits Times said, citing data from flight-tracking website FlightRadar24.
