Oil prices slide 1% to 11-week low on weaker IEA 2024 demand forecast
Crude prices slid about 1% to an 11-week low on Wednesday after data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) showed oil demand in developed countries likely would flag this year. Brent futures fell 62 cents, or 0.8%, to $81.76 a barrel by 10:59 a.m. EDT (1459 GMT), while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 60 cents, or 0.8%, to $77.42. That pushed both crude benchmarks into technically oversold territory and put both on track for their lowest closes since Feb. 23.

Nobody more Mumbaikar than me: Piyush Goyal on opposition's outsider tag
Piyush Goyal, who is the BJP's candidate from Mumbai North, on Wednesday hit out at leaders of opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for labelling him as an outsider, saying they are «helpless» and making ridiculous arguments. «There can be nobody more Mumbaikar than me,» Goyal told PTI during a road show here in response to questions on the «outsider» barb hurled at him by the opposition. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut and Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad, who dubbed Goyal as an «outsider», had said voters of Mumbai North would send «Pedder Road's parcel back to Pedder Road» in the Lok Sabha elections for the parliamentary constituency on May 20. Goyal had mentioned his residential address as Malabar Hill, a locality in the vicinity of Pedder Road, an affluent neighbourhood in South Mumbai. «That is a very ridiculous argument. Not even worth responding to. I am a born Mumbaikar. Lived in Mumbai all my life, worked in Mumbai all my life,» Goyal said.

First-time contestant Piyush Goyal sure of winning -- on back of Modi work and wave
Piyush Goyal, contesting a Lok Sabha election for the first time, asserted on Wednesday that he will surely win — but almost entirely because of the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that this election will determine the fate of India. «I recognise that we are all subsumed under Mr Modi's performance… It is gradually dawning on people that this is Modi's election,» Goyal told PTI during a road show — a slow crawling journey atop a decked up pickup truck that wound its way through a ward of Borivali in the Mumbai North constituency. Goyal, a Rajya Sabha member and a veteran manager of many an election campaign, including that of Lal Krishna Advani in 1989, replaced incumbent Gopal Shetty as BJP's candidate for the constituency. The elections are due on May 20. With four days left for campaigning, which ends on the evening of May 18, Goyal is crisscrossing all the assembly segments of the constituency every day in his truck in a set pattern: every morning, a few hundred party workers wearing orange caps, BJP scarves hanging down their shoulders and lotus sticker on their clothing, gather at the starting point of the road show.

US consumer prices rise 0.3% in April; core CPI slows
consumer prices increased less than expected in April, suggesting that inflation resumed its downward trend at the start of the second quarter in a boost to financial market expectations for a September interest rate cut. The consumer price index rose 0.3% last month after advancing 0.4% in March and February, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) said on Wednesday. In the 12 months through April, the CPI increased 3.4% after climbing 3.5% in March. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the CPI gaining 0.4% on the month and advancing 3.4% year-on-year.

Wake-up call for AI makers: They should take the iPad ad’s backlash seriously
Apple has made some of the world’s most iconic advertisements ever. When the brand’s Macintosh computer was launched about four decades ago with its 1984 commercial, whose protagonist was shown throwing a sledgehammer to smash a giant screen depicting ‘Big Brother,’ the world applauded. But when Apple Inc recently released its Crush! commercial for the iPad that showed several things integral to human lives being crushed by a huge industrial compressor, the world shuddered in fear.
