Adani starts getting regular payments from Bangladesh, restores power supply
Indian billionaire Gautam Adani’s power generation unit resumed full electricity supply to the nation, four months after halving the feed over unpaid dues. “We’re making regular payments to Adani and receiving power as per our requirements,” Rezaul Karim, chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board, said on Thursday. He didn’t specify the quantum of payments and whether past arrears have been cleared. Data from BPDB shows Adani increased power supply more than two weeks ago.

RBI set to double investment limit for foreign individuals, sources, memo say
Reserve Bank of India is set to double to 10% a cap on investment by individual foreign investors in listed companies, as it aims to boost capital inflows, according to two senior government officials and documents reviewed by Reuters. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), pressured by poor earnings, high valuations and prospects of U.S. tariffs, have pulled more than $28 billion out of Indian stocks since September's record high in the benchmark NSE Nifty 50. To boost foreign investment, India is widening to all foreign investors benefits it had until now restricted to overseas Indians, while also raising applicable investment limits, the officials said. «It is felt that these proposals may be implemented as early as possible,» the central bank told the government in a letter last week, pointing to disruption in capital inflows among recent developments in the external sector. Emails seeking comment from the finance ministry, the central bank, and the market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), did not get any response.

NRI deposits show a dent despite softening rupee
Indian diaspora withdrew more money than it invested in local bank deposits since October last year despite the sharp depreciation of the rupee, possibly indicating a tighter job market overseas, especially in the Gulf countries, as well as a fear of uncertainty in the global economy amid a looming tariff war, said people familiar with the matter. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed that there was a net outflow of $1.5 billion between October 2024 and January this year in non-resident deposits while the rupee depreciated 3.3% during this period. The outstanding NRI (non-resident Indian) deposits stood at $161.2 billion at the end of January, down from $162.7 billion at the end of October last year.

Total insensitiveness: SC stays Allahabad HC order
A bench of justices BR Gavai and Augustine George Masih had taken suo motu cognisance of the Allahabad HC ruling on Tuesday. «We are at pains to state that it shows total lack of sensitivity on part of the author of the judgement. It (the order by high court) was not even at the spur of the moment and was delivered four months after reserving the same. Thus, there was application of mind,» the bench verbally remarked. The bench further orally observed: «We are usually hesitant to grant stay at this stage. But since observations in paragraphs 21, 24 and 26 is unknown to canons of law and show an inhuman approach, we stay the observations in said paras.» Solicitor general Tushar Mehta said there are enough reasons to stay the order. «Some judgements contain reasons for staying them. It has the same,» Mehta added.

Bill Gates’ startling AI prophecy: Humans won’t be needed ‘for most things' in 10 years
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Gates explained that while we currently rely on human specialists—such as doctors and teachers—the rise of AI will make expert-level knowledge widely accessible, affordable, and free. “Great medical advice, great tutoring—it will all become commonplace,” he predicted. In a separate conversation with Harvard professor Arthur Brooks, Gates doubled down on his belief that AI is ushering in a new era of “free intelligence.” From diagnosing diseases to personalizing education, he sees AI fundamentally reshaping our world at an alarming pace. “It’s very profound and even a little bit scary—because it’s happening very quickly, and there is no upper bound,” he warned.

Deceiving farmers is for nobody's good: FM Nirmala Sitharaman in Rajya Sabha
Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said deceiving farmers cannot do good to anybody as she attacked the Congress on their farm loan waiver scheme, alleging that their promises left the farmers in lurch. During her reply in Rajya Sabha on The Banking Laws (Amendment), 2024 Bill, the finance minister took a cue from BRS member Ravi Chandra Vaddiraju's statement in Telugu during the discussion where he referred to Congress loan waiver scheme for farmers. Sitharaman said Congress announced «Rina maafi» (loan waiver), but in reality… half the farmers were left without loan waiver, the banks had put their name on record thereby making them also ineligible for new loans. «I would want to highlight the fact that deceiving the farmers is for nobody's good. If you really want to help the farmers, here is Prime Minister Modi putting Rs 2,000 every time, annually, 6,000 rupees into their account through the transparent DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). It helps the small farmers. Show it in action,» she asserted. Sitharaman said Congress policies have been limited to paper without any action on ground and if there was any action then it was riddled with corruption. «I want to highlight like the way they speak about food security, MGNREGA and the rural areas, all schemes brought by them (but) none of which were effectively implemented. When Prime Minister Modi implements them, without corruption, without malpractice and without any kind of wrongdoing. They will say, oh that was our scheme. Yes, it was your scheme, but you kept it in the paper, or you mismanaged,» the minister said.

Why are the rich leaving India, where are they headed?
There were 2.83 lakh Indians who can be tagged as UHNIs in 2023, with each having a net worth of over Rs 25 crore and their aggregate wealth was pegged at Rs 2.83 lakh crore. The same is expected to grow to 4.3 lakh individuals possessing a wealth of Rs 359 lakh crore by 2028, as per the survey. Kotak Mahindra Bank's president Gautami Gavankar, however, said the decision to migrate should not be seen as a flight of capital out of the country, pointing out that the caps on such activities ensure that the money does not flow out even if a person changes residency.

Palestinians protest Hamas in a rare public show of dissent in Gaza
Videos that appeared to be authentic showed hundreds of people taking part in a protest in the heavily destroyed northern town of Beit Lahiya on Tuesday. People held signs saying «Stop the war,» «We refuse to die» and «The blood of our children is not cheap.» There were calls for more protests on Wednesday. At least one was held in the hard-hit Shijaiyah neighborhood of Gaza City, where dozens of men chanted «Out, out out! Hamas get out!» «We are sick of the bombing, killing and displacement,» said Ammar Hassan, who took part in the protest on Tuesday. He said it started as an anti-war protest with a few dozen people but swelled to more than 2,000, with people chanting against Hamas.
