By 2030, world needs to cut emission by 43%: UN report
mitigation target are projected to be only 2% below those levels, shows a new UN synthesis report on countries' collective climate actions released on Tuesday. It highlights that peaking of global emissions will, however, occur within this decade. The synthesis report, released ahead of the upcoming UN climate conference (CO) in Dubai, also shows that while emissions will not increase after 2030, compared to 2019 levels, they are still «not demonstrating rapid downward trend» — a necessity of this decade to limit warming below the 'danger' level. Limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of this century is considered safe to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, including more frequent and severe droughts, heat waves and rainfall. The rise in earth's global average surface temperature, however, has already reached around 1.1 degrees C, higher than the pre-industrial average (1850-1900), and 2023 is already on track to be the warmest year on record.

Alex Pereira rises to top 5 in ranking after UFC 295 achievement
Pereira won his second UFC championship in just his seventh fight for the promotion. Pereira, who won the middleweight championship last November at MSG, badly hurt Procházka and the fight was stopped at 4:08 of the second round. Procházka had won 13 straight MMA fights, including his first three in UFC. Pereira became the ninth fighter in UFC history to win championships in two weight classes. Pereira scored a superb second-round knockout win over Jiri Prochazka to claim the light heavyweight crown at UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden, 364 days after winning the middleweight title at the same venue. The 36-year-old kickboxer landed a short left hook late in the second frame to stun his Czech opponent and followed it up with a flurry of fists and elbows that further impaired Prochazka, forcing referee Marc Goddard to stop the fight. Brazil's Pereira, who knocked out Israel Adesanya on November 12 last year to win the middleweight belt before losing it in April in a rematch, had some early success with some vicious leg kicks, but Prochazka's precise striking posed a problem. UFC now holds the top-three spots for highest gate at the Garden. Also, Sunday marks 30 years since the company's debut show, UFC 1.

WFH good for firms' revenue growth: Study
revenue growth that's four times faster than those that are more stringent about office attendance, a new survey shows, adding fuel to the debate over productivity and performance in today's workplaces. The analysis of 554 public companies that employ a collective 26.7 million people found that «fully flexible» firms which are either completely remote or allow employees to choose when they come to an office increased sales 21% between 2020 and 2022, on an industry-adjusted basis. That compares with 5% growth for companies with hybrid or fully onsite workforces. The study, by flex-work advisor Scoop Technologies and Boston Consulting Group, included companies across 20 sectors, from technology to insurance. Revenue growth was normalised against average industry growth rates so that employers in better-performing areas would not skew the findings. Among the companies that did require at least some office attendance, those that came in a few days a week boosted sales at twice the rate of those in the office full-time, according to the survey.
