No duty reprieve despite 'productive' Donald Trump-Mark Carney call
Donald Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday had a phone conversation that both men described as productive, although the Canadian leader said Ottawa would be imposing retaliatory tariffs next week as promised The call was the first contact since Carney won the leadership of Canada's ruling Liberals. He has called Trump's tariff threats a betrayal of a once close economic and security relationship. «It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things, and will be meeting immediately after Canada's upcoming Election to work on elements of Politics, Business, and all other factors,» Trump wrote on Truth Social. Trump's tariff announcement is expected on April 2. Ottawa has made clear for months that it will impose countermeasures. The US and its northern neighbour have long been close allies and trading partners. But relations deteriorated after Trump upended the relationship with tariff threats and repeated comments about annexing the country. US inflation, consumer spending up

Brad Pitt link to Netflix's 'Adolescence' series and the advice for parents
Netflix's "Adolescence," a four-part series, explores the factors leading to a 13-year-old boy stabbing to death a female classmate, examining the influence of online platforms like the «manosphere» and the importance of open communication between teenagers and adults. The series, starring Owen Cooper as Jamie and produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, sparked global discussion about young men, online radicalization, and the complexities of raising teenagers in the digital age. Experts advise open communication and critical thinking development as key tools for navigating the challenges presented. The show's director, Philip Barantini, praised Pitt's hands-on involvement as a producer. The show's creators describe «Adolescence» as a «whydunit» rather than a «whodunit,» focusing on the how and why of Jamie's actions. Key themes include online bullying, the influence of anti-feminist online communities, and the struggles of adolescence, such as low self-esteem and loneliness. The series also highlights the challenges faced by parents trying to understand and support their children in the digital world. “I had this almost panic about the world and young men and then I realised I was overreacting," ab Auckland mother, who watched the series with her 13-year-old son, reacted. She stated that while her son was aware of figures like Andrew Tate and the “manosphere” from a young age, he appreciated only his fitness advice while rejecting other views, particularly those regarding women. Some of his peers, however, entertain Tate's views, including that women are lazy and never truly independent.

Consultant's MBA is the costliest course for 'teaching nothing' post triggers big debate on social media
Manab Majumdar, an ISB graduate and consultant, recently shared his perspective on the realities of pursuing an MBA. In a LinkedIn post highlighted the high cost of the degree, the unrealistic expectations associated with post-MBA career growth, and the importance of focusing on academics over distractions during the program. According to Majumdar, an MBA is one of the most expensive courses despite the availability of similar knowledge at a fraction of the cost through other learning methods. Many students enter business school with the misconception that an MBA will immediately catapult them into top executive roles, but the reality is far from the Bollywood-inspired fantasy of instant corporate success, he said. He also emphasized that the experiences during an MBA program are valuable but should not overshadow the primary goal of academic and professional advancement. «MBA is the costliest course for teaching nothing. Yes, you can learn every subject taught in an MBA at 1/100 cost,» he said in the post.

The new luxury travel trend
Asad Lalljee, CEO of arts and culture platform Avid Learning, and his wife, holidays aren’t about ticking off Instagram-worthy hotspots — it’s about curating unforgettable experiences. Whether it’s staying in a madrasa-turned-hotel in Uzbekistan, attending a sushimaking workshop in Tokyo or doing a conscious safari at Bagh Villas in Madhya Pradesh, their family holiday is designed to be a rich and unique journey. And he’s not alone. Lalljee has noticed a shift among family and friends increasingly favouring “meaningful and immersive travel, where unique experiences take precedence over traditional tourist attractions”, he says. While private jets to Maldives, Switzerland and London are still popular, for many discerning highend travellers, the new definition of luxury travel is about seeking journeys that leave an imprint beyond social media feeds.

'Policing towards Orwellian': On Meerut Police's passport cancellation warning for Namaz violators, NDA minister takes a dig
Meerut Police issued a directive concerning this year’s Eid namaz, imposing strict restrictions on where it can be performed. The police stated that the prayers would be limited to designated locations such as nearby mosques and the ground at Faiz-e-Aam Inter College. This decision is part of a broader crackdown aimed at curbing the practice of offering namaz on public streets, which had been a point of contention last year. Meerut's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ayush Vikram Singh, warned that any violations would lead to immediate legal consequences. «Violators will face immediate legal action, including FIRs and potential arrests. We will also initiate proceedings to cancel their passport and driving license,» Singh said. The police have implemented an extensive security plan to ensure that the restrictions are followed, involving drones, video surveillance, and the deployment of forces such as the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) in key areas of the city. Singh also referred to last year's incidents, noting that over 200 worshippers had been registered in cases for offering namaz on public streets.

Assam CM says online news portal workers not recognised as journalists
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday reiterated that individuals working for online news portals are not officially recognized as journalists under state government rules. His statement followed the arrest of a Guwahati-based journalist, Dilwar Hussain Mozumder, who was detained under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A Guwahati court granted Mozumder bail on Wednesday, but he was arrested again in another case the next day. The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court (Kamrup) confirmed that multiple cases were registered against him. Sarma, in a statement on X, clarified, “It has come to my notice that some media houses have reported the arrest of a journalist by Assam Police. I would like to clarify that Assam Police has not arrested any journalist in recent times.” He emphasized that the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) does not recognize individuals from online news portals as journalists. “He works for a portal, and we do not recognize people working for portals as journalists. In Assam, no individual employed by a portal is recognized as a journalist. I believe he is just an individual, and there are speculations that he is a businessman. He owns dumpers and operates as a part-time journalist for a portal. The portal in question is a politician-promoted,” Sarma said. The journalist had gone to the Assam Cooperative Apex Bank (ACAB) to cover a protest regarding alleged irregularities in recruitment. A video shared on social media showed him questioning the bank’s managing director, Dambaru Saikia, who refused to respond.

Did you know? Aamir Khan was once rejected by Kiran Rao... for being Aamir Khan!
Aamir Khan has frequently spoken about how his former wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, turned him down for a role in his own production, Laapataa Ladies. The actor had even auditioned for the part of Sub-Inspector Shyam Manohar, but Kiran ultimately decided that Ravi Kishan was a better fit. Recently, a clip from Aamir’s audition made its way onto social media, igniting a debate among viewers. The footage, which Aamir uploaded on his newly launched YouTube channel, shows him dressed as a village policeman, chewing betel leaf while delivering his lines in a regional accent. In the film, this humorous character undergoes significant development as the story progresses. Many fans supported Kiran’s decision, applauding Aamir for recognizing that the role suited Ravi Kishan better and stepping aside. One viewer remarked, “Ram Gopal Varma once said, ‘Casting the right actor is half the battle won.’ Watching this, I completely agree. Say what you will about Aamir, but at least he has the self-awareness that others, like Salman Khan, lack.” Another user echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Nope… rejecting him was the right choice, both by Kiran and himself. Ravi Kishan fit the role perfectly. If Aamir really wanted to play the character, he should have done extensive preparation and worked with a dialect coach. But let’s be honest, he looks too polished to convincingly portray a rural cop. Ravi Kishan, on the other hand, comes across as authentic.”
