Madurai boy whose labourer father earned Rs 100 a day now becomes Indian Army officer
Indian Military Academy’s Passing Out Parade was filled with the echoes of marching boots and the cheers of proud families. Among the newly commissioned officers stood Lt Kabilan V, a 23-year-old from a small village near Madurai, whose story touched every heart in attendance. Beside him, his father, Vetriselvam P, watched from a wheelchair, his hands bearing the scars of years as a daily wage labourer. Paralysed by a stroke three months ago, Vetriselvam could only silently witness his son's triumph, accompanied by a photograph of Kabilan’s late mother, Panmaiyammal, who passed away three years ago due to cancer and Covid-19.

In the second session, Travis Head defended a ball into the offside and took off for a quick single. Siraj sprinted, collected the ball, and threw it recklessly towards the non-striker's end, hoping to run out Head. However, the ball went over the batter and Jadeja had to jump to collect it and hurt his fingers in the process.

India's import of Russian oil drops in November on shrinking discounts
Russian crude oil dropped in November to its lowest level since June 2022 but the Kremlin continues to be the biggest source of oil for India, according to a monthly tracker report of a European think tank. India became the second biggest buyer of Russian crude oil since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022, with purchases rising from less than one per cent of the total oil imported to almost 40 per cent of the country's total oil purchases. The rise was primarily because the Russian crude oil was available at a discount to other internationally traded oil due to the price cap and the European nations shunning purchases from Moscow. «India's imports of Russian crude oil dropped by a massive 55 per cent in November — the lowest figure since June 2022,» the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) said its latest report.

Ind vs Aus Test: Jasprit Bumrah picks fifer even as Australia dominate Day 2
Jasprit Bumrah was at his best with the second new ball in the third Test against Australia at GABBA, Brisbane on Sunday. The pacer got his 12th five-wicket haul as he dismissed the Australian top order. At the start of the day, Bumrah got rid of opener Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney in quick time to reduce Australia to 38/2. However, a partnership of 241 between Travis Head and Steve Smith meant that India were staring at a massive total. Bumrah, on the other hand, had other plans and picked up three wickets in four overs with the second new ball to reduce Australia for 327/6.

The path to net-zero starts with data
data management system for hundreds of remote sites has helped the Dubai municipality save about $2 million a day by reusing water. At Michelin, a centralised monitoring and energy tracking system across 65 factories helps achieve a 10% reduction in water and energy consumption. It’s clear that, if deployed at scale, technology could be a gamechanger in accelerating the world’s transition to net-zero emissions. So, why aren’t more companies doing this? Lisa Wee, global head of sustainability at industrial software provider Aveva, points to the pace of digitalisation. “We still haven’t seen digitalisation done successfully at scale by most companies. In fact, 70% of industries haven’t yet managed this,” she said. “Until you have that foundation in place, you’re jumping ahead by talking about the benefits of AI or machine learning, because the quality of foundational data is so important.” Wee pointed out that over 50% of industrial data in the world was created in just the last two years. “Once you have good foundational data and a standardised way of bringing it together [across plants or functions], you can deploy analytics on top of it. You can find out, for example, that paint drying might be your most energy intensive process,” she said.

Truth Social CEO to head of US intelligence board - Track rise of Devin Nunes
Donald Trump on Saturday named ally Devin Nunes, a former U.S. lawmaker who now runs Trump's Truth Social social media platform, to serve as chairman of President's Intelligence Advisory Board. Nunes, a longtime Trump defender who led the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee during part of Trump's first White House term, will remain Truth Social CEO while serving on the advisory panel, Trump said in a post on the platform. As committee chair, Nunes alleged that the FBI had conspired against Trump during its investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections in which Trump defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
