UPS Provident Cycling International Sporting badminton I got Rs 1.5 crore? It’s ridiculous: Badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa rejects claims that she received financial assistance from govt
Ashwini Ponnappa on Tuesday said she received little to no individual financial assistance from the sports ministry in the build up to Paris Olympics and even her request for a coach was turned down ahead of the just-concluded Games. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) had come out with a document, detailing the financial support provided to the Paris-bound Indian athletes. It mentions that Ashwini was provided Rs 4,50,000 under TOPS and Rs 1,48,04,080 under Annual calender for Training and Competition (ACTC), which included the procurement of Game Ready recovery equipment, international competitions and sparring partner in the Tokyo cycle. «I'm absolutely shocked… I don't mind not getting money but telling the nation that I got money is ridiculous. I haven't received it. Like if you're talking about national camp, then that 1.5 Crore is spent on all the campers,» Ashwini told PTI.

Olympics reports Courts Sporting wrestling UWW freestyle Are there any loopholes that could've worked in Vinesh Phogat's favour during CAS hearing? Here are details
Vinesh Phogat's fate who was disqualified from the Paris 2024 Olympics gold medal match in the 50kg freestyle wrestling category is now in the hands of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) who will deliver its verdict on August 13. While the hearings are completed and only the verdict is left, there might be a crucial 'loophole' in the United World Wrestling (UWW) rulebook that could potentially benefit Phogat, according to media reports. According to current regulations, Phogat’s disqualification was due to her failing the weigh-in by a mere 100 grams. UWW rules state that no exceptions can be made for such violations, which seemingly rules out the possibility of awarding Phogat a silver medal. However, an intriguing loophole in the rulebook might offer Phogat a chance.

Winter Olympics performer country social Olympics Relationships Sporting athletics View: Medals tally with nations?
Olympics reading the US, China, Japan, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Britain, South Korea, Italy and Germany, one is bound to ask: why do some countries fare better than others? Discussions usually attribute wins and losses to individual abilities, training and dedication. These factors are undoubtedly crucial. But there could be other determinants like economic prosperity. In each of the last three Summer and Winter Olympic Games, the top 10 medal-winning countries have been high-income countries based on World Bank's income-level classifications, with the exception of China (upper-middle income) in Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and OAR (Olympic Athletes from Russia — upper-middle income) in PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. However, research has found a range of determinants beyond economic prosperity — team size, growth rate, expenditure on health, population, etc — to have a significant impact. We investigated the association between the total medal count for each country at the Beijing 2022 Olympics and their GDP per capita (PPP). A moderate positive relationship is observed with a correlation coefficient of 0.62.
