Investor demand for branded plots remains strong, says Abhinandan Lodha
The Mumbai-based company, which focuses on branded land development, has recently expanded into several new locations, including Nagpur, Vrindavan, and Khopoli (Mumbai Metropolitan Region). It sells plots ranging from 1,200 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft, priced between ₹25 lakh and ₹5 crore, depending on size and location.“Our approach remains straightforward, wherever strong infrastructure development, improved connectivity and growing economic momentum begin to shape a region’s growth story, HoABL aims to establish an early presence and create branded land developments that cater to both end-users and investors,” chairman Abhinandan Lodha told Mint.In recent years, plotted sales have seen strong momentum in sales and a rise in prices, prompting many mainstream real estate developers to enter the segment.“The average ticket size for our plotted developments is currently around ₹97 lakh per plot, with the average plot size being approximately 1,500 sq ft.

The great reset: How Balaji Telefilms is swapping edgy originals for a family-first future
ALTT, and is positioning itself as a family-friendly destination. That, however, is only one part of a three-pronged strategy. The company, known for mostly risqué theatrical offerings such as The Dirty Picture and Udta Punjab in the last decade, is also announcing a host of feature film projects, starring mostly bankable faces, to recover investment through a combination of theatrical, satellite and OTT revenues.Thirdly, Balaji, which saw its net loss widen by 107% to ₹24.43 crore in the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 (FY26) and reported a 53.5% year-on-year drop in total revenue to ₹41.58 crore, has also launched an astrological service and a talent management vertical. However, the big question is, will these new bets pay off?“Our growth strategy today is built on a multi-platform content ecosystem.

The volatility trap: Why straddles and strangles fail when you need them most
₹229 trillion, the highest since November 2024. Every fear event produces the same pattern: retail traders flood into options, most often choosing straddles and strangles.A straddle involves buying a call and a put at the same strike price, profiting if the market moves sharply in either direction. A strangle is cheaper, placing the call above and the put below the current price, but it requires an even larger move to profit. Both appear logical in uncertain times: direction-neutral and clean.

Duration or accrual: Where should debt investors park money now?
Mint, Sahil Kapoor, head-products and market strategist at DSP Mutual Fund, said duration strategies look appealing right now because of wide spreads between the 10-year G-sec yield and the repo rate. So, what exactly is a duration strategy? And what other strategies work in the bond market? Here’s a closer look.Duration funds take a directional call on interest rates. If the fund manager expects rates to fall, he increases exposure to longer-dated bonds. The logic rests on a basic bond market rule: yields and bond prices move in opposite directions.

RBI’s new forex rules signal shifts in currency strategy; banks now on frontline
RBI measure will bring some temporary relief to the rupee, but appreciation will be limited because fundamentals remain unfavourable, treasury officials said.“Currency appreciation may be limited to the extent of unwinding of these current leveraged positions. But once that is settled, I think the currency will again follow the fundamentals, and as long as this crisis continues, rupee will depreciate,” Reddy of Karur Vysya Bank said.Following the central bank move, the rupee gained 1.3% to touch a one-week high of 93.59 per dollar on Monday, before shedding gains to hit a new low of 95.1250. Likely RBI intervention lifted it to 94.83 at close, little changed from its previous close.

Rupee's worst performance since 2013 taper tantrum: how worrying is the decline?
trade deficit and high gold imports. The impact of the war-led disruptions—built on top of the calibrated depreciation—pushed the rupee towards a level not previously anticipated. Even then, economists believe that the RBI should not defend the rupee too much as it may provide temporary relief, but could stoke sharper depreciation later."If this is a long-drawn-out crisis, you want to preserve your forex reserves because when we got into trouble in 2013, our reserves went down, then the taper tantrum made it worse," said Gaura Sengupta, chief economist at IDFCFirst Bank.Forex reserves declined 3.4% and 0.6% in FY12 and FY13, but failed to arrest the rupee’s decline.

Markets offer an entry point, but sticking to large-cap indices may no longer work: Samco MF CEO Viraj Gandhi
Future wealth will be driven by active stock-picking, identifying newer growth segments currently outside the major indices and holding them through their growth phase, said Viraj Gandhi, chief executive officer (CEO) of Samco Mutual Fund.“In this volatile environment, shifting from a passive mindset to an active, selective strategy is the only way to navigate the new investment horizon.”Even as current market conditions offer a strong buying opportunity, he believes the old passive-playbook approach of sticking to large-cap indices is unlikely to work.Edited excerpts:The outlook depends on key leading indicators. If crude stays elevated for the next three to twelve months, fuelling global inflation, this could be the start of a deeper fall.

Sebi’s algo rules spark race among brokers to build in-house strategies
Retail investors can also develop their own software for application programming interface (API)-based trading. For a segment that had grown rapidly through third-party platforms and loosely governed APIs, the rules mark a structural reset—and have triggered a race among brokers to offer proprietary, in-house-built algos to strengthen customer stickiness.Algorithmic trading refers to the use of computer programs to execute trades automatically based on predefined rules such as price, timing or volume, with minimal human intervention.“We are seeing a clear shift towards brokers offering in-house algorithmic strategies,” said Sandeep Chordia, chief operating officer, Kotak Securities. Kotak Securities is working on an in-house algorithm that is expected to launch soon.“This can materially expand participation, especially among investors who are not tech-savvy and prefer to rely on a trusted broker rather than third-party providers,” Chordia added.Competition among brokers intensified after discount brokers such as Groww, Zerodha and Angel One cornered significant market share over the past decade, riding on low-cost pricing and a surge in derivatives trading.Groww has over 12.74 million active clients and a market share of 28.4%, followed by Zerodha at 6.9 million clients and 15.4%, and Angel One at 6.8 million and 15.1% as of February, according to data from the National Stock Exchange. The gap with the rest of the industry is stark.

₹2,055 crore (about $245 million), said the people quoted earlier, speaking on the condition of anonymity as details are not public yet.The edtech firm was valued at $3.4 billion in 2021, and upGrad had proposed a valuation of $300–400 million in November before the talks collapsed in January.upGrad’s own valuation remains unchanged at around ₹17,000 crore, though it has fallen in dollar terms from $2.2 billion in its last funding round to roughly $1.8 billion due to currency movements. This roughly translates to 0.12 Upgrad shares for every Unacademy share, the people quoted earlier said. The companies refused to share valuations when they announced the deal. UpGrad and Unacademy did not respond to Mint’s queries sent on Wednesday. The acquisition was announced earlier in March after months of on-and-off negotiations.

Devina Mehra: Are you driving your investment portfolio by looking at the rearview mirror?
You know what will happen if you drive looking at the road that is already behind you? Ignoring both the dangers and opportunities ahead? That is what I thought of when I saw that inflows into Indian gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) exceeded flows into equity funds in January 2026.For context, in March and April 2025, gold inflows were hugging the zero line even as equity mutual fund flows were at pretty much the same level as in January—around ₹24,000-25,000 crore. Now the dollar price of gold is down 20-25% from its January peak. But this is not a column about gold.

At 10, Amazon Ads sharpens commerce-led play in a crowding ad market
Mint in an interview, pointing to how consumer attention is now split across streaming, social, short-form video, and commerce platforms. For Amazon Ads, this shift has transformed a marketplace-focused product into a broader ecosystem spanning shopping, streaming, and third-party publishers—helping it emerge as a third major player after Google and Meta.Amazon stood in the third place in terms of monthly active user base of 325 million in December 2025, following Google in the first position at 501 million and Facebook (Meta) at 447 million, according to a Ficci-EY report released Tuesday.Over the past decade, Amazon Ads has linked advertising more closely to shopping behaviour, a strategy it is now doubling down on amid intensifying competition. On Wednesday, the firm rolled out two agentic AI tools: Creative Agent, to help advertisers easily create professional-quality ads, and Ads Agent, to assist sellers in planning, launching, and optimising campaigns.India’s advertising market continues to grow alongside the media and entertainment sector.
